Forget alcohol for a year post-op. Ignore its existence. And after that, you will probably find that one drink is about all it's going to take to have you flying like a kite. I'm not a big drinker personally, so it's not a huge loss for me.

Yes . But lots of things to consider. Your tolerance will be very low so be careful. Also alcohol is all empty calories so better prepare to do an extra hard workout the next day to burn off those calories! Beer is carbonated and should' be avoided. I am 10 weeks out and haven't had a drink yet but my surgeon cleared me at my 6 week appt to do so after having a talk about the things I mentioned above. But in terms of safety at 6 weeks your new stomach is healed enough to tolerate alcohol without harming it but just be careful because of empty calories and it can cause people to stall with their weight loss and transfer addiction is real in bariatric surgery patients. Whenever I do decide to indulge in a glass of wine I will make sure to plan those extra calories into my day and to do a good workout. I'm down 55 lbs since surgery and 80 lbs including weight lost during pre op. I want to get closer to goal before I try to incorporate alcohol occasionally into my plan.

Had a glass of wine two weeks post op. Was fine. I have a nightly whisky but work it in to staying at or below 1000 calories. Losing weight steadily.

Sure. I had one drink 4 months post op, then a couple more 8 months post op in Hawaii. Even now in maintenence, I rarely drink because I'd rather eat my calories. Just make sure you're healed up well and it won't interfere with your Fluid, Protein and weight loss goals.

My NP said alcohol was fine starting at one month post-op. I cut it out after the first month of my six-month pre-op diet because I didn't want to give any of my precious calories to it. My plan is to keep it cut out until December (3 months post-op) when I take my partner on a 3.5 week tour of southeast Asia as a graduation celebration. And, even then, any consumption will be majorly conservative. Once we return home, I might have the occasional drink in a social setting, but that's about it. I accepted when I started this journey that drinking will NEVER be like it was before. And I'm okay with that.

Good luck!

Wow, 1 month. I like your 3 month plan better haha.

I barely hit my Fluid goals without adding in alcohol, which will dehydrate you. Everything going on in my body, the last thing I want is alcohol. Maybe occasionally down the road but I cannot imagine it now.

If you do drink, make sure you have extra fluids that day and don't forget 1 drink is going to hit you a lot harder than it used to.

My NP said alcohol was fine starting at one month post-op.

:faint:

She didn't mean get hammered, and she wasn't advocating it; she was just stating that medically, it wouldn't hurt anything.

I think my story speaks for itself that I am super serious about my weight loss journey. My partner has busted his behind to earn this master's degree, and if he wants me take a sip or two of some no-carb libation while we are in 5 different countries in southeast Asia, I think I can do that without disrupting my journey in any way.

Absolutely! Do your thing! I just can't imagine being given the nod for alcohol a month out. My stomach wasn't even fully healed yet.

:D

My NUT said to forget about liquor forever and that we would discuss wine after one year post op.

Can I ever drink again?

Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

I didn't touch a drink until 9 months later. Only had 4oz or so and that was it. It felt like I drank 5 drinks but I was ok. Definitely don't have any till some time later. Unfortunately friends don't understand if you tell them so I had to distance myself from some people in order for me to succeed. It's hard but it has to be done for the better you. I added some pics post-244766-14772279951092_thumb.jpg post-244766-14772280249196_thumb.jpg post-244766-14772280501804_thumb.jpg post-244766-14772280892572_thumb.jpg

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

      2. BlondePatriotInCDA

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
