liquid diet questionS- 5 days in.

Recommended Posts

Hey guys! Hope everyone is enjoying their Friday. Couple quick questions that I'd like anyone's opinion on..

#1- I know there are premade shakes that you can buy at the store, however, I am a busy girl on a budget. I have been making Protein Shakes from my Protein powder and soy milk each morning. I will make one drink it immediately and then right before work I will make another one for lunch and have it in the fridge until I am ready for it. Pre-made would be MUCH easier but with saving for being out of work for two weeks (silly me did not elect for short term disability this year) it just isn't doable right now. So, I was wondering if anyone went ahead and premade 5-6 cups or however much a blender would hold of the Protein Powder shakes and just stored them in the fridge until they were ready for them? I figured i could make a big batch ahead of time and then measure out as I'm going. Has anyone done this and was it easier? Also, the consistency. i wouldnt want it to get a weird consistency like sometimes shakes do.

#2- (and this one might be a tmi) I am having a weird time going to the restroom. Did the liquid diet mess with anyone elses bowel movements?

Other than that, day 5 is going good. I slipped on day 2 and then gave my debit card to a trusted source so I wouldnt be able to have easy access to cheat.. and once I did that it was smooth sailing. Today the hungry feeling has come back but i think it is all in my head because I got my card back (haha). I have ignored the feeling though and am excited at my will power. the guilt from day 2 was enough to not want that solid food anymore.

The Protein will break down even in the fridge so don't make a big batch because you will have to throw it out. Also if you have a shoppers club card for whatever grocery store alot of times the have them on sale with the shopper's club card. Also look on line for coupons. I have found a couple really good ones for 2-3 dollars off. I start my pre op liquid diet next Wednesday. Good luck and hope this info helps

I have made up 2-3 servings of the Protein powder shakes and stored in the refrigerator for the day. They seem to be okay. But I wouldn't go past the one day.

Thank you! I will definitely try this.

I like the premiere Protein ready to drink shakes. You can print coupons off the internet for them to help with cost. The are only 160 Calories and have 30 grams of Protein.< /p>

I will try that brand. What I am doing currently is the muscle milk and I like it. I add soy milk to it since it only has 16 g of protein but once I add the Soy (8g) it goes up to 24.

Yup. Pretty much what happened. I looked it up and it looked pretty common. Also, urinating much more frequently. Read something about the liver getting rid of the glycogen and releasing the Water stored, which made sense since I have lost close to 10 last I checked just in the week Ive been on the liquid.

@@BrookeTiffani Do you have a costco or BJs near you? Premier Protein prepared shakes are very reasonable there and they often have coupons. I bought a Blender Bottle for my pre-op shakes. I would fill with milk and take a separate container of Protein powder to mix during work or when not at home. That worked well.

Be sure to drink plenty of Water or non caloric drinks to help with Constipation.

I think the nearest costco may be an hour away.. Which is also where my doctor's office is and where my surgery will be. Maybe I can look for one and be able to go the days I have appointments. That is a good idea about the Blender Bottle though. I have seen them at Wal-Mart and thought about getting one but didn't know if they worked well or what. I will definitely buy one this week. & yes I have been making sure I get my Water and been doing Decaf tea. I like the taste so i get a lot of liquid. Surgery in 6 days so from there, hopefully I still do well getting liquids.

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
