How much wt. lost

Recommended Posts

Hello,

I was not given a pre-op diet...just liquids for 24 hours before surgery...so nothing to report on there...

But, I lost 32 lbs my first month...It's been amazing. I'm not quite at 2 months and have lost 46lbs. I don't have any restriction right now and have my first fill scheduled for Oct. 11...so I'm pretty much dieting...but even though I'm hungrier than I was, I am nowhere near as hungry as I was prior to being banded...

Good luck to you!

Rain

Just wondering how much weight you all have lost during pre-op time? And during the first month after banding.

:bounce:

I lost 32 lbs. myself and then averaged 12-15 lbs. a month after that.

Rain,

I don't understand why you should get a fill....... A person should lose up to 10lbs. a month for a healthy weight loss. I never got a fill myself and lost 109 lbs. in 8 months with no fill. If you are not needing restriction but of course not starving yourself in the process then I don't think a fill is necessary.

Josephine,

Hello!

I am getting a fill because I am struggling every day to stay true to the bandster's diet... I am hungry...not as hungry (as I said), but hungry enough that I am feeling frustrated and overwhelmed. In addition, the hunger before was a lot of just mindless eating.

Basically, I am dieting and not receiving the full benefits of the band. As I understand it (according to my dr.), the band is so successful because it not only prevents you from overeating, but also from feeling hungry.

At this point, I am hungry and what keeps me motivated is that knowledge that in a month's time I will be feeling less hunger and using the band to its fullest.

Does that seem to make sense or am I attacking this the wrong way?

Thanks!

Rain

Rain,

You certainly are not attacking it the wrong way. I know my doctor was very concerned with the pounds that I was losing monthly but I wasn't able to help it. Once I had the surgery I lost my interest in eating. I have to make myself eat 4 times a day to keep my weight on now and 2 times out of the 4 I am not even hungry.

Due to fast weight loss though I ended up having a Tummy Tuck. I am sure it didn't help that either. Then again, I also have been told if a person is 100lbs. or more over weight for 5 years plus it is inevitable that a person will have excess skin.

I lost 35 pounds pre-op on Opti-Fast. Lost 16 pounds 1 month after surgery, also on Opti-Fast.

I had my Tummy Tuck May 9th. All is doing well but it is awfully tight still. The doctor tells me it will be a full year before all is normal. I was abnormal with that also. I didn't even hurt and I also had a breast lift at the same time. I still can't feel my stomach much though.

;)

Did you get the TT done?

I did not have to do a pre op diet, I ate about 400 last meals. ;)

After surgery I was ill so I stayed on Clear liquids for a full three weeks so I lost quite a bit but I'm not sure it is fair since I was on clears. Had I been on full liquids I wouldn't have lost as much.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
