QueenOfTheTamazons 634 Posted October 21, 2016 Taste buds are weird after surgery. Things i loved before, like a sugar free iced tea from Walmart or Jello chocolate mousse cups, taste horrible or barely tolerable now. Most fake sugars i cant stand anymore. Try diluted juice, crystal light or Powerade zero/gatorade g2. Any of the add a squeeze brands too. Sometimes just a slight flavor helps get it down. PorkChopExpress 821 Posted October 21, 2016 (edited) If it's tap Water, it's probably the metals or possibly chemicals. What I'd suggest is getting some purified water (reverse osmosis) which gets rid of a lot of that, and has a much more neutral taste. I didn't end up having any weirdness with my taste buds after surgery, but I know a lot of people do. So chalk it up to that. Capricorn86 20 Posted October 21, 2016 I hated the taste of Water for the first few weeks but then I started to hate the taste of artificial sweeteners so now Water is all I drink besides coffee and tea Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
LipstickLady 25,682 Posted October 21, 2016 Three and a half years year out here. I rarely drink plain Water because it's still nasty to me. Sometimes it's great, most times, not at all. It usually comes right back up.
kelbel62 1 Posted October 21, 2016 Funny I thought there was something wrong because they tell you drink all Water and every time I would take a sip I couldn't get it down without pain but I'd it was flavor Water I could and I was a big water drinker before Sent from my SM-G920V using the BariatricPal App
Recycled 2,182 Posted October 21, 2016 Hey, you gotta get you fluids in so you might as well benefit.....try drinking a Protein drink like Isopure Zero carb. When I go to the gym I bring the Isopure in my Water bottle. When you are really thirsty, anything wet-n-cold is refreshing....
ZollDoll 21 Posted October 21, 2016 I hear alot of this in my support group meetings. I drink alot of Water now - almost the only thing I drink besides unsweetened ice tea. I am afraid of this happening to me after surgery. (I will find out my date next week) anyway does adding lemon to the Water help? Or would I need to get those drink powders - I try to stay away from artificial sweeteners and everything I see has either aspertame or sucralose in it. smith08817 23 Posted October 21, 2016 Try adding lots of ice. I never used to like really cold Water but now that is what I drink. There are lots of sugar free mixes and drops to add to water so try some of those too. It's important to get in 64 oz of liquids every day. That includes your Protein Shakes, herbal tea, Soups, etc. Be creative!
