A foood scale is important at home and let's not forget the measuring cups and spoons. Being civilized is also important, perhaps moreso in public. You don't have to do your weight-loss thing in a way that will make you feel imprisoned or foolish.

Most of the slides in the link pertain to weight-loss surgery folk and will be a good guide for determining portions. Some are excellent for the objects that approximate specific serving sizes. There are other sources of similar info, too.

Vigilance is good especially early in the WLS process when people do most of the learning. Overdoing it tends to make people unhappy. There is a happy middle ground.

Just my opinion. Do what makes sense to you.

Your eyes should be the scale. Use your judgement and communicate with your body. I borrowed my friend's scale for three days and tossed away. Too much work after I figured what four ounces looked like in a plate.

Starting out the food scale is very important to me. I can't eye 150-200ml of food so I use my scale. I don't have one small enough to put in my purse but I'm on puréed foods at the moment. Once I'm on soft foods or solids then hopefully I will be able to put the scale away and use my eye.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
