Hi Everyone! I have a question about insurance. My Insurance covers weight loss surgery. I just had twins in June and I've hit all my out of pockets, so I figured this would be the best time to have surgery. My insurance requires 3 diet consults with a dietician. Well I didn't lose any weight during this time. I met wth the psychologist for the evaluation and she said that I would be a great candidate. So I'm worried I won't be able to have surgery bc I didn't lose the weight.... anyone else's gone through anything similar?

Does your insurance require you to lose weight while doing your dietitian visits?

I don't know... my dietician would ask what things I was doing and I told her... I did incorporate her suggestions

See if you can get a copy of your plan document or member benefit handbook. If they don't specifically set out a weight loss requirement, it would seem unfair of them to deny your approval because you didn't meet a requirement they never told you about? Good luck!

So as long as I was seeing the dietician and attempting my goals, would that be good enough?

I have Cigna insurance and am on my second month of the supervised diet....Well I meet with the NUT tomorrow for the second time and my phy visit. My NUT said on my first visit that Cigna doesn't require any weight loss. But, we were told at the initial bariatric seminar that we aren't allowed to gain weight during the pre-op diet or we would be dropped from the program because they know that most insurance companies will 99% of the time deny you.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
