birth control after surgery and while losing weight?

Recommended Posts

I have to do implant or IUD. My surgeon said same thing about the fertility going up after surgery. She also said I can't get pregnant for 18 months because of all kinds of complications due to the surgery

My 22 yo daughter had the implant last year. Woke up one Sunday with horrible pain shooting up and down her arm not able to move it at all. Wound up in the ER and had to have the implant removed due to it being stuck on one of her veins. Now they have a beautiful 5 day old baby girl .

I've had both the copper IUD and the Mirena IUD. I would never ever recommend the Mirena to anyone. I had the worst side effects from it and the worst part is my doctors made keep it in for six months because "my body needed time to adjust". What a crock of ****.

BUT. Everyone is different. I can't say you will have all the side effects or none. Personally I would never recommend it to anyone.

This is why I'm terrified of Mirena! It's hit or miss. So sorry you had a bad experience.

Am I the only one on the shot?! I'm not having any side effects from it that I can tell, except I do have a light discharge kinda period when it gets close to time for me to get another shot. Other then that It seems to be working, although I don't know how well its protecting me - since I uh haven't had sex since before my surgery cause I kinda cut off my um boytoy - he was getting too possessive and not willing to understand why I was living with a male roommate, and kept complaining for days that I didn't need the surgery, I could do it on my own.

I had another 'friend' but I kinda been ignoring him too cause I'm just not feeling it since surgery either.

Birth control is ESSENTIAL when you are looking weight. A 20% weight losses can trigger ovulation in most women. Case in point ? Me. I got pregnant at 46 (yes, fourth SIX) after working my butt of to loose 80 pounds. So mow I'm 62 with a 16 year old. If you want to become pregnant be sure you are taking folic acid to prevent neural tube defects.

Thanks I went with the Nuva ring. I knew it was important to give my body a chance to heal and lose the weight prior to getting pregnant. I also have been taking folic acid since I was 20 to make sure my levels were good!!! ????

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
