kayelly 6 Posted October 19, 2016 I'm a bit confused about Water intake.....I know I'm supposed to sip water all day except half an hour before and after eating. My question is do I take a drink once every 5 min like the way I do with my food or just continually sip? I'm trying to understand if I can only do like 5-6 tbs in 30-45 min of food how does it not stretch the pouch if you put more water in it by sipping constantly? I am only getting a litre of water in at this point. 16 days post op. Any advice is appreciated. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
Mindy78 372 Posted October 19, 2016 I believe the drinking while eating isnt recommended because it flushes food out so you feel hungry sooner after, not that it stretches. There's a video on YouTube about it. Sipping constantly doesn't stretch because it flows through. Sent from my 5054N using the BariatricPal App
Raynbolite 302 Posted October 20, 2016 If you drink too soon, you will flush food down faster...so you get hungry faster and less nutrients absorbed. Sent from my XT1650 using the BariatricPal App

spdmonkeymama 36 Posted October 23, 2016 I go with trying to take 10 oz within an hour. How far out are you? We were told 1 -2 every 15 minutes Sent from my SGH-M919 using the BariatricPal App
kayelly 6 Posted October 24, 2016 @@spdmonkeymama I was told to sip throughout the day. But I wasn't sure if I should be following "food rules" one tbs every 5 minutes or if it was okay to sip whenever. I am afraid of stretching the pouch? Don't even know if it is possible with liquids. I will be having post op next week and will ask to confirm. I'm 3 weeks post op tomorrow. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
spdmonkeymama 36 Posted October 24, 2016 Your just a week behind me. Sip however you can. liquids won't stretch your pouch. Sent from my SGH-M919 using the BariatricPal App

gpmed 623 Posted October 24, 2016 @@kayelly It should be safe to sip continuously. Liquids move through the pouch much faster than solid food. Shortly after surgery, you really need to get in all the fluids you can to prevent dehydration. The 30/30 rule comes into play when eating solid foods.
