WHEY PROTEIN ISOLATE VS WHEY PROTEIN CONCENTRATE

Recommended Posts

My Nutritionist and Dr's Office requires a 2 week liquid diet pre -op. They make me purchase the Meal Replacement Protein in their office along with the Vitamins. They only give me the choice of Bariatic Advantage and I tried all the flavors and don't like it. I've tried mixing the drink in a shaker cup and different blenders and I hate the consistency. Its too thick and even in the blender it comes out too foamy and still thick. It won't even freeze when I put it in the freezer to try to make it taste better. I've tasted Premier Protein with 30Grams of Protein and I actually like it because it taste better and I can buy it already made. Premier Protein drinks have almost the same nutrition facts as Bariatic Advantage. The only difference is the ingredient is whey Protein Concentrate Vs Bariatic Advantage is about 27G of Protein and contains Whey Protein Isolate. Will it make a difference if I drink Premier Protein with Whey Protein Concentrate? My Dr's office keeps emphasizing Whey Protein Isolate is better and I should choose a Protein Meal Replacement with whey protein Isolate as the first ingredient. What experience do you guys have with this? Any Protein Drink (preferably already made drinks) you guys recommend?

You will absorb more of the Protein from whey protein isolate than from whey protein concentrate. Also, whey protein isolate is typically digestible for someone with lactose intolerance, while whey protein concentrate is more likely to give the lactose intolerant person digestive problems. So those are a couple of factors to consider. Isolate is more expensive and tends to foam up a lot more if you are blending it yourself.

Personally, I looked at the numbers and didn't think the difference in absorption between isolate and concentrate was enough to make me particularly care. I used both forms of Protein Powder throughout my weight loss and managed to lose over 200 lbs and get to my goal so using whey concentrate didn't hurt me.

Whey Protein Isolate is a more filtered version of Whey Protein Concentrate. Because of the extra filtration, Isolate has less carbs, so your body will absorb it faster.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
