I started eating dal regularly after week 4 because even though it's pureed and a good source of Protein, it gives you gas. I did have a spoonful every once in a while during the puréed phase to get the taste of it and it did not make me sick.

Roti is something that I stay away from even now because I am still in the weight loss process and that is our bread which is a no no. Roti/bread is something that we will have to eliminate to once or even less than that in a day type of thing in the long run. As in, eat less than once per day in comparison to with every meal the way we normally do.

I was okay with spices after week two but afghans don't use the amount of spices that Indians do. Why don't you put a little bit spice, try a spoonful and see how your stomach reacts??

I'm Bengali and I miss rice and roti and my curries :( my surgeon told me to stay away from it for 6months but I don't think I'll eat rice until I hit my goal weight.

I am sorry but I have been outside all day today so I didn't get a chance to see the message. I ate a small amount of basmati rice two months out. It filled me very quickly but as expected, I was hungry shortly after. I have also lost my appetite for rice. I don't like it and I don't miss it.

Isn't it such a challenge to track calories with our dishes?? There are a gazillion things that we put in one dish. It's scary and leaves us with very limited options on the menu.

Without rice or roti, there is nothing we can have for a meal.

I'm not indian but I love indian food. I'm 4 months post op. Warning stay away from naan and roti it will upset your stomach It still upsets mine so does rice UHG! But spices don't bother me an most of the Indian vegetable dishes and paneer I eat fine with no issues in addition to the Soups.

Lema, I'm in London - I had my surgery on the 15th Sept. Where are you from? When did you have your surgery? So far I've stayed away from our dishes. I'll have the odd soft chicken when I cook for hubby and the kids.

Hello I'm from Pakistan

Two more days and i will be 1 month out of surgery

Well my doctor suggested me to try minced chicken mutton and lentils and Beans but very soft after I complete a month

To be honest i miss desi food a lot I'm someone who loves spicy food and biryani

But I'm controlling

I would stay away from rice as much as possible and roti/nan

Because they will reduce my weight loss.

Btw when did you have your surgery?

I am from Canada but I did my surgery at Mexico because my bmi was low but my health issues were too many on top of the pcos.

I will eat one meal the normal stuff of what everyone else eats unless it's rice or something very unhealthy.

My first nasty experience after surgery was with nan and chicken. Nan is too chewy and elasticky and I was only a month out. I don't know what I was thinking.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
