I started off eating very sensibly in 10/2014. Everything made me nauseated, but I never threw up. Finally one day I decided to try something sweet - what could I lose at this rate? Unless I go really overboard, sweets don't cause nausea and will actually stop nausea from eating broiled fish, beef (ugh!), chicken, pork, vegetables (some okay). I still have no caffeine and now love my Decaf coffee. I am losing weight too. This just doesn't make sense. What is going on? I can't get away with more than 3 or 4 bites of "normal" food. If I had known it would be this way, I would never have had the surgery. I quit going to Bariatric Solutions because they didn't know what to do with me (or cared in some cases) and didn't know of anyone who had these problems. Am I the only one in the world??

Maybe it's a blood sugar thing? My husband isn't diabetic and he's not a big sweet eater anyway but some days he gets really light headed and almost panicked looking and I'll grab a cookie or something sweet on hand and be fine in a minute or two. I thought he was just hungry at first but this has happened even after I just made him a big dinner. It doesn't really make a lot of sense, it jus is.

Maybe try to find low calorie sweet things and chase the main food with it, it's not ideal but it keeps you losing and not puking, it's worth it.

I've come to find out that just because someone has that MD tag after their name does not mean they always know everything, or hell, even anything other than plain text book cases . I can't tell you how many times a doctor has brushed me off or told me xyz is because you smoke (I quit a while ago) they don't want to think, and your problem made them think lol.

Best of luck!

Low blood sugars is a problem for my hubby, who used to have diabetes and due to Surgery it's almost cured. He is a month and 1/2 out and his sugars are still a little up and down. When they drop he needs a little sugar to feel better. OJ is his go to. Once he does this, things even out and he can eat, drink and go on with his day. It is improving as time goes on slowly. Could this be anything like you've experienced?? Keep experimenting with different foods, don't give up. Don't be afraid to ask other drs for their opinions. If you feel something is wrong, don't just let it go.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
