So disappointed in myself.

Recommended Posts

Day 2 of my liquid diet and I ate a solid food. chicken nuggets to be exact. and I cried as soon as I was done and felt so much guilt I honestly didn't foresee coming (obviously I wasn't thinking). While I do believe I have learned my lesson, I am very afraid that I have just failed and ruined this for myself. I have 12 days left until surgery (October 31) and I am so hoping I did not just completely wreck the whole process. Earlier in the day is fine but then in the evenings, I get so hungry and the Protein Shakes are not curbing that feeling. I am trying to bounce back by drinking Water. Has anyone else gone through this? I just feel so terrible, it's like I lost all motivation and will-power. :( <_<

Don't beat yourself up. Learn from your mistake and move forward. I am converting from band to RNY and I will tell you, the pre-op liquid diet was 1,000 times worse than post-op.

I can't speak for everyone, but I don't think I'm alone in what I'm about to say. Lack of willpower and an addiction to food are huge contributing factors to why I needed (still need) this to begin with. The surgery, or tool, helps you gain willpower and break the addiction. After surgery it will be much easier to withstand temptation.

I may or may not have licked a Frito during my pre-op liquid phase. I did totally fine after surgery until post pregnancy where I regained some old habits while my band was unfilled. I know I need a tool to help me. I can't do this myself.

I don't think you've damaged anything beyond repair. Some surgeon's don't require such lengthy pre-op liquid diets. Mine only requires 10 days, so I wouldn't have started by now if my surgery was Oct. 31. Keep your chin up and remember that tomorrow is a fresh start.

Best of luck to you!

It gets easier as the days go by I promise. You're ok just don't make a habit if it. I made it to day 7 of 14 day pre op before finding out I need one more NUT class. I was scheduled for next Tuesday but now it's the 14th of November. Don't worry about the day before or the day after, worry about today and you will be fine

@@BrookeTiffani, yeah, yeah, lots of people misstep, but that's irrelevant. If all it takes to start you wailing and wringing your hands and walking away from something you started and claim to want is a few bites of junk food, you need to rein yourself in. Emotions that are way overblown usually are self-serving, self-important and -- yikes -- self-defeating.

Simply tell yourself that you goofed and will devise little ways to keep yourself on path. It should make you feel less than hysterical. Hunger at your stage is, as you might guess, common. Water helps; flavor it up with crystal light or similar things or anything else on your "may have" list.

You've done harder things than this in your life. You can do this.

@BrookTiffani..The first 3 days of the liquid diet were the hardest for me. Detoxing from calories, sugar and carbs make you stressed and tired and hungry! I fell off a few days in and I think I ate some chips! But next day I got back on track. Not sure what your liquid diet plan says but mine I was allowed one Protein Bar daily. I portioned it so I had some crunch with my liquids! sugar free Popsicles are great, broths and sugar free Jello and Proti shakes were delish! It's worth the work.. I lost 11lbs and it prepared me for post op! I'm 7weeks on Thursday.. 25lbs lighter! Keep the faith!! You can do this!

@BrookeTiffani...Today is day 1 for me on the liquid diet. The morning and afternoon were easy I just kept myself busy. But now that it's night time I am definitely feeling my night time need to eat and suddenly the liquid diet seems impossible to maintain for two weeks. But I begin to calm myself down and remind myself that this liquid diet is not going to be forever and that I will eventually be able to eat regular foods. I was tempted to eat some pistachio nuts but overcame that moment with how this is temporary and will not be forever. Give yourself some credit. You made it through the first day without slipping up. You can make it through the next 12 more days.

Thank you guys so much for the encouraging words. I am wanting to do so well and by the book that I let myself get really upset by this. During the psych evaluation process of all this the psychiatrist diagnosed me with panic disorder... So sometimes I do catch myself worrying extra hard, probably more than I truly should. Tomorrow will be a better day. Because I am going to make it that way. Also because I gave my debit card to a trusted person so I cannot spend anymore until necessary. lol

@@gidgetgrl my plan does not allow me to have anything except Protein shakes, broth, SF Jello and popsicles, and condensed cream Soups with either Soy milk for Protein or unflavored Protein powder. I am excited to lose more weight. I just need to get used to feeling this..... BLEH. lol

Thank you all for the support. I am so grateful to have found this site.

You know what? You have just gained a tool to help you going forward. The next time you are really tempted to eat something you know you shouldn't remind yourself of how upset and guilty you felt. Then you will realise it's not worth it. You don't fail when you learn from your mistake! You've got this!

I to am struggling to get the liquid down. I have to do boost for two weeks before surgery. My date is Nov 2nd. The boost is nasty, but I've found adding flavorings to it, plus adding more Water to Water it down a bit makes it easier. 4 boxes of boost and 64 oz of water a day, so when you add water to boost, you're killing two birds so to speak. Good luck everyone as the liquid part sucks and post liquid for two weeks will suck but look at big picture! I'm not going to let liquid get to me!!

I would be more scared than anything. My surgeon told me of one of his patients that ate a piece of steak a month post op and died. Be careful and take care of yourself!!!

Put ice and the shake into a blinder and turn it into a "shake" I find adding something to make it really cold helps.

Well, that's a scary thought. lol. I plan on staying away from foods though until I am clear to avoid and complications or death. I should be transitioning to pureed foods sometime around thanksgiving so that will be great because I am sure I can get plenty of mashed potatoes as leftovers. I am very scared to test the limits so I don't think I will be.

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
