What do you miss or think you will miss about being obese?

I am only 2.5 months out...but I miss my boobs. Yesterday I put on my bra backwards and it fit just as well as frontward. Sigh, they are also starting to hide in my arm pits. Jerks. The positives far out weight the negatives...but I feel less girly.

I haven't even had my surgery yet and my boobs are already getting really small. I went from a dd down to a 34/36 c but I think that's only bcuz I'm not small yet. So I feel u on the boob part.

I will say I honestly miss being in the background and not being the center of attention. I was ok with ppl telling how pretty I was and leaving it at that. But now everywhere I go I have men trying to talk to me. The thing is I just Dont know how to respond and it makes me uncomfortable. Plus I have anxiety so sometimes certain. Social situations trigger my anxiety. It makes me not want to leave the house just I did when I was bigger..I'm sure I will get use to it over time but right now its too much for me. I literally have men following me around in stores trying to get me to exchange numbers with them and I'm use to it unless it was a guy that likes bbw. I miss being invisible. But I wouldn't change my choice for wanting wls.

@

My opinion about your thread? Some people take themselves (and life) too freaking seriously. The thought behind your thread was fine, everyone's opinion in it was fine (except the name calling crap).

It's all good. :D

I don't mean to visit FYI land but do you lose fat everywhere? Like soles of feet, knees etc. How about private areas? I figured boobs rump and both kinds of cheeks. I'll miss being asexual, strange as it seems, I may have dudes hitting on me, hadn't happened in years , now what? Well I'm gonna bear up under the strain if I must.when I let the pruned down Rosey out will anybody like me?/And more important will I like me? I'll need new clothes, what do I do with the old ones. Some I've had for years and years. I have always feared getting rid if things, figured I only deserved tacky wornout things, not bright colors, bright print or polka dots. Leather, shade and silky fabric, I spent that money on other family members. Do I deserve a turn? Yes I do, and I will. Watch out world, Turbo Rosey's coming, just grab the roll bar and breathe deeply. Posey Power for the Rosey!!!

@,

Good question! And good concerns – they are real “problems” with weight loss!

One thing I thought I would miss about being obese would be having an excuse. Obesity can be a bit of a protective wall. If you choose, you can use it as an excuse for not being popular, for not taking care of yourself, for not getting things done, and for any sort of failure. I was afraid that I would lose my “built-in” excuse, and would not know how to handle things.

I was dead wrong. I am more confident. And when I fail at something, I am happy to own up to my mistakes and move on.

So, I hope all of your fears either don’t come to pass, or are far outweighed by everything you gain when you lose weight!

For a while, all I heard was the benefits of weight loss. Since I was obese for my entire adult life, I just knew I was overlooking some of the downsides of being a normal weight - like being cold all the time. I was curious if there was more "downsides" so, hence, this thread.

Well, everything comes at a price. Just like going to the store and buying stuff. You have to pay a price for it. Some things are worth the price you'd have to pay and other things aren't. Maybe you have to cut back on a fancy vacation to be able to afford a certain product you really want to buy or that you really need to buy. And only you decide it you want to shell out the money for the product.

I don't think there is an upside to being overweight. I really don't. However, being thin comes at a price (at least for people like us who have to struggle all the time with food and weight) - and that price may be high. And one has to evaluate from time to time if "being thin" is worth the price you have to pay.

I don't know if I've gotten you wrong in your post as well but for me "missing things" is not about a certain body shape - it's about behaviors or things I didn't have to do while being obese.

On some days (well, depending on how stressful life is on a lot of days) I just want to order food into the house so I don't have to bother with shopping and cooking, I just want to collapse on the sofa instead of going out running. I don't want to go to work by bike but I simply want to get into the car and make the way in half the time. I want to eat without thinking about "nutrition". On most days I don't want to get up early to prepare food for the day or do yoga etc. - but it's the price I have to pay and I'm paying it because I think it's worth the price. Maybe some day I will decide I'm not willing to pay it anymore. Who knows?

I never felt like being in the background with a BMI of 46. I always felt very vulnerable and overly visible, always being ready for a response should someone made a nasty comment.

In fact I feel way less "visible" since reaching a less-overweight physique. I simply seem to "blend in" now.

Exactly! You hit the nail on the head! It's definitely a price you have to pay. It's a really cheap one too. I was just curious as to what "prices" other people are paying for their freedom from obesity.

@ Given the fact that so many people struggle with weight loss and maintenance even after WLS the price isn't obviously that cheap. If it was, there wouldn't be so much struggling.

What helps me paying the price is thinking about the price I'd have to pay for the behaviors I want to indulge in - the results are simply not pleasant.

I will honestly miss, the small sum of money I spent yearly on clothes since I HATED clothes shopping. It was so depressing to see myself in all those mirrors in clothes that were as big as tents.

Now that the lard is shedding, my pocket book is shrinking with all the clothes and shoe shopping replacements. On the other hand, I've learned I rather like clothes and shoe shopping - plus, I really take in the steps going from store to store!

I kinda miss eating a ton of food. But honestly, the benefits I'm experiencing right now make me miss it less and less. I'm happy! :)

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
