Calinurse 0 Posted September 6, 2007 Hi everyone, Yes, my port flipped! I went to get my first fill 2 wks ago after having my band in since May 29th,2007, the Dr. kept hitting metal. . .so sent me to interventional radiology where they tried to flip it back but no luck. So, next week I have to have surgery!!! YUCK!!!! My Dr. tells me that this has never happened in his practice and in worldwide statistics, only happens to 1% of banded people! Can you believe it? Leave it to me!! lol. :phanvan Has anyone ever heard of this happening? I really need a fill. . .I have lost 30 lbs since May 29th and am stuck there and able to eat too much. ragdollx19 1 Posted September 7, 2007 I am so sorry! I guess of all things that could go wrong this one sounds like an easy one to fix. I hope the pain is minimal and you are back on track very soon!
vessa 1 Posted September 7, 2007 My band flipped too. There was no answer, no one could figure why. They bent 3 neeles under floroscopy before they figure out it was completely upside down. I was so pissed when they tol me it'd have to be revised that I cried an cried. I had just ha my baby 6 weeks earlier and didn't have the time, money, or stamina to do that. Thankfully, they scheduled the surgery within 2 weeks, and when I got it, it went SO fast, and it was considered out-patient, so I got to go home that day. I was up caring for my daughter the next day, no pain at all. And I was scared, because my port hurt like crazy for weeks after they put lap band in. I've had annual womanly exams that were worse than my revision surgery. Now it's just a distant memory, it will be over before you know it.
kacee 3 Posted September 8, 2007 Ports flip because you lose weight and they get "loose". It is not uncommon. Mine is "loosey goosey" as my nurse says, but it hasn't flipped. When and if it does, they try to "right it".
Calinurse 0 Posted September 20, 2007 Hi, thanks for sharing your experience with me. . .I just got my port fixed on monday, all went well. He also did a 1cc fill and I think it was just right. Daisalana 33 Posted September 20, 2007 Vessa- thanks for the info! I go in for port revision surgery tomorrow.. it detached, tilted, and now leaks.. I've been trying to find someone say how the pain is post-op. My original surgery was HORRIBLE for pain, I thought I was dying for a little bit. But when they do the port, it's not so painful??
