Upcoming surgery in Tijuana and I'm scared

Recommended Posts

@@Ginsin007 I'm having surgery Jan 13, 2017 in Mexico with Dr. Illan! I also am self-pay. With my insurance the out of pocket cost for me was $13,000. Which doctor did you decide to go with in Mexico?

  • @DebSmiles I was going with Dr. Garcia, I had researched and he's been doing for a very long time. I had messaged with two girls on here that went to him two weeks ago. Are you going by yourself or bringing a friend or spouse? I am excited but nervous too. The idea of flying from San Diego to DFW, then to Lafayette after surgery doesn't sound fun.

@angelryrn It's because of you and the other girl that I considered Dr. Garcia. You guys seem to do so well, and when I researched him he'd been doing it for quite some time. Thanks for sharing. Also, please post updates. :)

Hi! I'm so glad you decided to go with Dr Garcia! He really was wonderful and the whole thing was a good experience! No regrets!! I'm 13 days postop and I went back to work today. I have some weakness and fatigue but so far no other issues!

Makes me feel good to hear this. I am so glad you shared on here. How long did you decide to stay at hotel before flying back? Any other info you feel I should know is great. I know some people say they wore compression socks (I didn't know about them) on flight to help with circulation. I don't even know if I'd recognize fatigue, I work 7 days a week ;) I am getting a bit more excited, I filled out forms to get Passport Card today, will drop off tomorrow. Not sure what else I need to get ready now.

I stayed the night before in a hotel then surgery night and next night in hospital then 2 more hotel nights. I wore compression stockings in the way home after surgery to prevent blood clots. If you contact Tijuana bariatrics they will guide you through The Who process!

@"Ginsin007" whether my hubby goes or not maybe I can schedule mine around the time of yours and we can go this road together! Would help to have someone else there going through it too! I'm live around the Ruston area . LATech University.

@angelyrayrn Thanks! I am in contact with Alisha there. Thanks for letting me know how long you stayed. I was planning on doing exactly what you did. One day before in hotel, surgery-two days at hospital, and then two days in hotel after to make sure all goes well.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
