No goal weight.

Recommended Posts

I am resisting setting any type of goal weight. I started below two hundred because I am only 4'10. My BMI was 40-42. Well everyone keeps wanting me to focus on a goal weight and I just don't think for me this will be healthy. I want to focus on a new life, more energy, better wardrobe and working out. I feel like if i get stuck on numbers I will get into an unhealthy spiral. I have seen many people obsess about the scale and are not happy. Either wanting their weigh loss to never stop and get undernourished or feeling defeated because they didn't make it. Any thoughts?

My goals are 33-34 pants and a large shirt. Crazy enough I'm already in 34 pants and a 2xl shirt! I was in 38 pants and 4xl shirts. No goal weight in mind.

Hey, good for you. Whatever keeps ya motivated! It's all about what works for YOU.

I'm a numbers/goal driven person, so having an actual goal weight was what worked for me. Now in maintenence, I use fitness goals and numbers....ie "I'm going to work on running/walking xx miles, or "I'm going to climb xx levels on the Stair Climber". It was hard not having that weight loss number anymore to keep me motivated, so that worked for me.

Oh, and clothes. Clothes keeps me motivated, too. ;)

I started out like you with no goal weight in mind and it was great. I was surprised that I was loosing weight. Now i look at it in ten pound increments with little weight goals.

That's a great idea. I haven't set a goal weight but am a numbers person. I think I'll do what you said, going to set goals to break 10 lb increments. Thanks for the great idea.

I think that's great! Who wants to be obsessing over the scale every day? I just want to be at a healthy bmi and would love it if my blood pressure went down low enough to get off those meds and my a1c went out if the pre-diabetic range. Those are my goals. Oh and to live a longer, healthier more full life so that I have a chance to experience being a grandma one day. :-)

I set a couple short goals at a time. Easier to stay focused and attain them. For instance, by oct 25th I want to have lost 40 lbs total (3 more lbs to reach this one!).

By Nov 15 I want to be below 200. (I have 10 lbs to go!)

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
