I'm new here, so glad I found this forum. I've been excited and looking forward to my surgery scheduled for November 11th...until today. I'm really emotional and having a melt down. I've had several surgeries, so that's not the issue. Just hearing and reading post op horror stories. Family and friends are concerned, of course that this is a drastic move to lose weight. I need to lose about 75-80 lbs that I've been battling with for almost 10 years now. I'm over it! I'm trying to read as much as I can and watch YouTube videos about VSG to educate myself and feel confident that this is the best decision for me. I love success stories and the before and after pictures are amazing!! I'll get there, just need to get over this panic attack.

@@shelly.s from what I've read on here (and my own pre-surgery feelings) this panic is normal. While there are horror stories, there seem to be more success stories.

For me, it was finally getting to the place that the risks of not having the surgery were greater than the risks of having it. What is your final line?

While it is important to get support, only YOU know what is best for you, what the pros/cons of having surgery are. As long as you know these, you will be fine. If, however, you have just as many or more worries/cons then benefits, perhaps you should re-examine. Have you made a pro/con list? It really helped me.

Best of luck!

Thank you so much!!! I'm not banking out. I'm feeling much better about it. I had foot/ankle and leg surgery in July and still struggling with the pain from that. I know getting the sleeve done will help my feet immensely and the Dr's tell me that as well. You're all awesome! Thank you for the support!

Just follow your surgeons advice and all should go well. It seems as though people who suffer horror stories had underlying health risks and/ or didn't follow the directions. It takes a lot of mind over matter to get through this so I come to this as I learn from others tips and tricks as well as hazards to beware of.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
