It's hard to say, because everyone is different. Some feel restriction well the first few weeks, even with liquids, and some feel they can drink and drink and never feel full.

When the stomach is cut, so are the nerves the run the length of the stomach. It takes those healing up to start feeling sensation again. Also, liquids just flow right through the tiny tube like channel that's your very swollen stomach.

I personally was one that had a fairly easy time drinking, but it still would take me well over an hour to finish an 11 Oz Protein shake. Water was a bit harder.

I'll echo what @@Babbs has said. I have been very lucky that I have been able to get fluids in pretty easily since Day 3 post-op. Today, I am Day 18 post-op. It takes me about 60-75 minutes to comfortably drink a Premier Protein shake (11 oz). I drink fluids all day (like a full-time job), but I've been getting in 64 oz since Day 3 post-op and about 80 oz for the past week or so. Yesterday, I was able to drink a 16.9 oz bottle of Water in about 20 minutes. I would classify my "sips" as more "small gulps" of Water now.

Each person is unique though. It just seems that I am healing pretty well. But I get to the first stages of soft foods this week (well-cooked green Beans, string cheese, cottage cheese), so we'll have to see how that affects everything.

Good luck!

I'm 4 weeks out tomorrow and I'm able to drink Water fairly quickly. 11 oz shakes & Greek yogurt take about 30 minutes.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
