Did anyone else have an easy recovery? I'm getting downright paranoid....

Recommended Posts

I was sleeved 5 days ago and my recovery has been so smooth that it's making me suspicious. Day 1 was pure hell obviously. I had a good deal of pain waking up but mostly it was the anesthesia and heavy drugs that were making me feel completely awful and confusing reality with fantasy.

Day 2 I got in an okay amount of Protein and Water, maybe made it about 1/2 way to goal. Since then I've had no problems. Very minimal pain at times that is either hunger or gas and other than a bit of soreness around the big incision I've had no issues. I can get down 8 oz of broth or water in about 30 minutes. I am okay taking regular drinks (no need to sip, but not gulping) and have gotten 60g of protein and at least 64 oz of Fluid for the past 3 days.

It's making me paranoid. I ALWAYS have issues after medical procedures and I'm terrified that this is all going a little too good. I feel certain that I'm headed for a staple leak or blood clot or something. I'm worried that maybe there already is some kind of leak and that's why all the liquids are going down so easily, or they made it too big.. or something. I'm freaking out because I don't feel sick and I know it's demented. Other than being extra tired I am really not having any problems....

Is it too good to be true or are some of us just lucky?

I did. On day 3, other than the muscle soreness, it was as if I hadn't had a surgery. I'm 6 wks, and from the beginning I could always drink 64 oz and meet my 60g+ Protein goals, and there hasn't been one food that upsets my stomach at all. I called and they said that's the way they always hope it will be for each patient.

Good grief! (My favorite saying)! Relax and go with it! If something is wrong you will be the first to know! Just do the best you can, read and learn, don't compare yourself to everyone else, call your surgeon if you see blood or you are Dying (as some people say here) or go to the ER. I spent 8 hours in the hospital with the sleeve and took one pain pill at home. I trusted our surgeon that he did an amazing job and I trusted myself to know when to be scared. Try to imagine your wonderful future! Good luck!

Like I said, I know it's totally demented, lol. I'm just so used to seeing everyone talking about how hard it is that I feel like something is wrong. I do feel post surgery crappy, I don't feel spectacular or anything, but I'm really not struggling much.

I also have had no problems. I am 10 days post-op. I don't always get my Protein or my Fluid in but that's more because of me not doing it (getting distracted) rather than an incapacity. I had no issues with gas pains. My main problem has been a little bit of chest pressure from acid and the occasional nausea.

If it makes you feel better, no. I am Day 8 and struggling through. Still having gas pains (I walk...a lot), having a really hard time with liquids as sf drinks make me sick to my stomach, but still get my 60 grams of Protein daily. Still have abdominal pain, but getting through. Everybody is different though, so just roll with what you got. 10 years ago I had the band, and I had an AMAZINGLY easy recovery and did great.

Good luck on your journey!

hey, I got sleeved on 10/11 and I walked around the hospital without pain meds or the IV pole attached to me. I have/had no gas pains whatsoever the other patients were shocked and the nurses were like how are u so happy and not in pain. I tolerated my foods. I'm doing well at home and my incisions are healing fine. Thank God!!! I see my doctor this week. So listen theres nothing to be paranoid. Not everyones body is the same!

I was so miserable in the hospital that I just wasn't expecting it to be this easy. I wasn't in a lot of pain necessarily but I just hated being there and all the drugs made me SO hazy and confused. I begged to go home the next day and then found out my surgeon had already cleared me.

I definitely haven't been immune to the emotional side of all of it, last night I had my first meltdown. On top of being sleeved I also haven't smoked a cigarette or had any caffeine since Monday so I am very mentally fragile right now.

Just wanted you to embrace your success, and realize we are all unique.

I completely understand what you mean. I was on the Band site saying the same stuff..went back to work 5 days post op. Was able to eat and tolerate foods weeks ahead.

Keep rocking, man!

It will all get better hun, I promise. Just think of it as a blessing I know its hard to see it that way. I smoke electronics if my doctor found out he would kill me lol. But i dont smoke it on a daily basis. I'm not saying u should do that. I havent had my iced latte in weeks and im going crazy because I live for DD iced lattes but i know this recovery stage is necessary and when I get to my goal weight there is no one stopping me from shopping my life away lol.

Day 3 I stopped pain meds, and my recovery has been smooth. I'm grateful as I know it's not always the case. I relate to the idea that it might be going 'too' well, though it sounds odd to say it. Just be grateful, keep following the surgeon's instructions, and make the most of this opportunity.

Quitting smoking was not a requirement for my surgeon to do the sleeve, but I'm trying my hardest since I had to quit for 36 hours in the hospital. Last night I was about to peel my own skin off. It is HARD. Most people gain weight when they quit because they eat more to compensate, we don't even have that option!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
