Fibro/Lyme Disease and pain after surgery

Recommended Posts

I have Fibromyalgia & Lyme Disease(which I believe caused me to have arthritis everywhere)

I would like to hear from people that have either or both and have already had surgery and how it affected the pain and ability to be mobile.

I already have horrible issues with my hips and walking. I was awake off n on most the night from radiating pain down my leg.

Thank you in advance :)

I also have fibromyalgia. Things eventually got easier when I started exercising. When I seem to stop moving the pain sets in. I'm still on Lyrica and pain meds tho. But have cut back on my pain meds a good amount. The arthritis in my knee still there.

I have severe Osteo Arthritis as well as Psoriatic Arthritis. Before I had RNY 2 years ago I could barely walk with the pain in my knees, hips and ankles. That got better after losing the first 60lbs which happened very fast.

I have more energy than ever. I will say the pain in my spine has definitely gotten worse. It is nerve pain and has been more present since surgery.

I know that I would not be walking today if I had not lost 152lbs. It is worth it and even though i am in a lot of back pain, it was still very worth it!

Thank you, I'm kinda wondering because Fibro makes our bodies over react to pain stimulus.. But yeah, I'm hoping(pretty sure) get the weight off will help the joints lots, but this pain that radiates down my leg I think is an issue getting worse in my spine.. But I know without this surgery I might as well be taken out to pasture n shot.. That's where I'm at :)

I have fibro and have lost my excess weight. (Post op complications caused rapid weightloss)

I am still on all the same pain meds and I still have "bone aches and pains" in my major joints, hips especially now when trying to sleep. Too much bone contact with the mattress.

I obviously find it easier to move around now but the weightloss has not changed that fibro type pain in my legs, hips and in the supporting muscles.

Maybe I hurt more because I am moving more. Not sure. Fibro is a mystery to me.

Weightloss can only help the joints and bones though, surely.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
