My surgery is Oct 20th any suggestions what to bring to the hospital.

My mind set was great when they gave me my date for surgery and then a week ago they said the insurance denied it .I was bummed the next date available for surgery was in December. I started to let it go not think about it and move on with my life .they called me on the 13 saying surgery is back on it was approved .I was ready a week ago to have surgery now I feel like I'm not ready .. any suggestions ?

I think that's normal. I changed my mind at the hospital ;) Congratulations on getting approved and getting a surgery date! I can honestly say that besides getting married and having my kids, the surgery was the best thing I ever did - my regret was not doing it sooner! I think that the best thing that I brought with me to the hospital was a heating pad. It was super-soothing post-op and helped with some of the gas pains. I had very bad nausea post-op to the point where it interfered with my walking.

I carried the pillow for the ride home that others suggested...great idea.

What I should have carried that I didn't was.... soft bra without underwire. It took me about 5 days before the regular bra was ok.

No awful bra needed, wear loose clothes! I took my husband with me, in and out of the hospital in 8 hours and never even felt I had surgery. Seriously. It was 10 times easier than I anticipated!

I packed a bunch of stuff i thought i would need but didnt.

Phone, charger, underwear, pj pants (felt naked in the gowns) and slippers (hate the hospital socks)

Thats all i used.

My hospital was 180 miles away (3 hours) so I get the worry, but you are likely to be too tired to do much more than sleep, pee and vitals.

It is a little different if you have a long car ride. I live ten minutes away from mine. Just like any surgery, make sure you are comfortable on the ride home. My husband and I never had pain or nausea, but some people do. So you might want to put the a little barf bag in the car. You sure won't need food!

Good luck, and I hope you all have an easy surgery like we did at age 67. The fear was in our head but that is all it was. The surgery was no pain!

The only things I used in the hospital were my undies and pajamas, chapstick, Biotene mouth spray, and hair and tooth brushes. Everything else that I brought was never used.

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.
