lc630 1 Posted October 15, 2016 I am 17 days post op, started puréed foods yesterday. I have noticed that everything I eat moves straight through me. Is this normal? Sometimes cramping accompanies it. I have had 2T cottage cheese for dinner last night, half of an egg this am, and some mashed up fish for dinner tonight. Probably 1 oz. James Marusek 5,244 Posted October 15, 2016 After my RNY gastric bypass surgery I became lactose intolerant. Anytime I drank milk or anything with lactose it lead to a quick trip to the bathroom with diarrhea. This condition lasted for a couple months and then went away. Some Protein shakes contain lactose. Most patients routinely receive antibiotics while in the hospital. There are generally many unusual germs in hospitals and antibiotics are given to prevent infections. This not only kills the bad bacteria but also the good bacteria in your gut. Thus it is important to take Probiotics after surgery to restore these colonies of good bacteria so that your gut can process food properly.

TLW 163 Posted October 16, 2016 If what you are eating is going straight through you, your system is telling you it is not ready for it yet. I was not able to eat eggs or fish until I was about 8'weeks post op. It was just too heavy for my stomach. And as I introduced food I had to introduce only 1 new food a very two days so I could identify the reaction. I truly just focused on my Protein Shakes, to ensure I got the Protein and allowed my stomach and system to guide me back to food. I am almost 18 months post op and will be going for Tummy Tuck Nov 10. Trust me when I say, you will go back to being able to eat almost everything you could before, and you will crave the things that you shouldn't have, and you eat something that makes you dump, see it as a great reminder to why you went through all you have. Also when you go out to eat, no matter how tempting, stick to safe food, like veggies, and lean meats. Best of luck to you.
lalame 56 Posted October 17, 2016 Try plain refried Beans. Purée Soups without Pasta and beef. Try purée chicken veggie Soup. Smash an avocado or no sugar added applesauce. What you are describing i could not eat until now and I am almost 6 weeks post. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
