One final fat humiliation *I hope*

Recommended Posts

Hey Wasabb, just wanted to say that your reply to the OP is most insightful and wise!

Hi Rabid, I too can relate to the issue you are going through. I know how upsetting it is but as many others have said, you'll soon show them! I have found as I get older (am 47 now), it becomes easier to accept things as 'it is what it is' -- something that might have bothered me greatly when I was younger may not even register on my emotional radar screen now. I can, however, still remember the pain those types of things did cause then. All the best with your band!

Thank you all so much for your replies. It's amazing how much it helps to know that there are other people out there who have went through this same sort of thing.

I would go to HR, but I'm the kind of person who would be too embarressed to even bring it to someone elses attention. I just want it all to go away, and I really don't want to make these people think they have gotten to me in anyway. Besides, before they know it, they'll be eating those words ;)

I've always been on the fence about people who run to HR with their problems. I think it waters down those who have legitimate discrimination issues. However, I think you definately need to talk to someone at that company. Or at least start a documentation file on times you've felt discriminated against. To some, the selection of a shirt is the same and picking paper or plastic, but to us, it can be a life-altering event. You said it yourself that you'd consider LEAVING the company because of a shirt. That's discrimination by anyone's book.

Regardless of where you work, I would think the owners wouldn't want qualified people who do their job every day leaving because of the actions of others (who are probably morons, at least that's my experience.)

My wife came home all the time telling me about so and so who is getting picked on for this or that. Then, finally, they got around to her. Her decision was to quit, which actually was for a lot of other good reasons, but it's just sad that morons win with this stuff. HR CAN do things to help.

Even if you do end up quitting in a few months, at least you might take a couple of morons down with you!! If people focused on their jobs and not on jerking around other people, we wouldn't have the problems we have!!!

..just my $.02

I almost didn't post this little dilema here, but now I'm SO glad I did. You guys have had some great advice and words of wisdom!

Wasa- I like the thought that this could be a blessing in disguise. I've always envied the girls who have always been thin, but I guess that does really limit what they can empathize with and truly understand. It's these sort of things that make us who we are, and honestly, I like myself the way I am (other than the weight part).

Knowing that I'll get the band in a few weeks is really the only thing that keeps me at that job. It would just make me sick if I finally get real thin and I can't rub it in their faces:) Just kidding! (kinda) It's like having a secret weapon up my sleeve. I know when they start acting like this that before long, they won't have my weight to talk about anymore. Then what will they do for fun?

I wish I had some words of wisdom for you or better yet, a solid answer but I don't.

I will tell you one thing. May not mean anything today but it will later.

The times you are dealing with today, the embarrassment and the humiliation.. it will pay off in the future. You will form a kind of compassion that those around you just won't get. You will understand things and people in ways others never will.

It's like this, when I was growing up both my parents were alcoholics. I knew at a young age I didn't understand what they were going through and I hoped I never did because some things you just have to experience before you can relate. I never wanted to relate to their issues because I never wanted to experience it.

Well, today I have experienced being humiliatingly fat. I know the difference in how I am treated fat vs. not as fat. I know how many doors are opened for me in life today vs. yesterday. Most of all, I know how others feel when they are experiencing something like this. I think it is (in part) a wisdom thing. I have something now I didn't have ages ago.

I may well never be able to explain the string theory or whatever the heck it is called to little children when I am old and gray but I damn sure can teach compassion and teach others to step in the shoes of someone else. I have a kind of wisdom I would have NEVER had if it weren't for my experiences being fat. I have something that others will never have.

If I had to do it over again I would. I know, that sounds crazy. But I am a stronger person and best yet, I am a more wise person because of what I experienced. You can have it while you are a big person, but you have more when you jump the hurdle and lose the weight. It's one of those things that you will experience.

I guess my point here is that these horrible times and embarrassing times will indeed pay off someday in the not so far future.

This is the most beautiful and poignant post I've ever read. Thank you, Wasa, for those thoughts, and thank you Rabid, for eliciting them. Wow.

Wasa- That was a great post and point. I'm not on the other side of the fence yet to look back on my 'fat days'.. but it's true about compassion for the overweight.

I always hate when companies I work for hand out shits and I'd have to ask for an XL. So embarresing when you work with skinny minnies! Give yourself a year from being banded and then the only talk about you will be how great you look!

When I get on this website the first thing I do is a search on postings by Wasabubblebutt. I learned a long time ago that inside of Bubble lives a wise and beautiful person. We are lucky to have her posts.

<p><p><p>Oh and one more thing--Lizi531--I would hate it too if the company I worked for handed out shits. Especially if I had ordered XL or larger ! Hang in there!</p></p></p>

I know we all make typos--I make my share. I just couldn't let this one go. B)

The company I work for has slowed down on the SHIRTS but the best things are the duffle bags! I prefer them and they get used. anyway I also have to agree with reading Wasabubblebutt comments she is awsome! and very smart about what she says. love her

Boy this brings back memories. Having been Fatty Patty all my life I can relate this situation back to High School and the skinny guy taking orders for band shirts. Then again we had a guy who the moms had to take 2 band uniforms and put them together to make one for him.

As for now, and the lab coats we must wear, I can actually wear the womens but I don't like the cut. We have 1 lady who orders all that stuff for us, and luckliy she just orders them with no problems. My coworkers always get me a 2X Tee's without even asking, they know. I even have told them, next time you order for me it will be XL! I even have an XL lab coat on a hanger for Dec! I guess I am lucky, because my coworkers don't care, and there are a couple of people fatter then me, so as I show them respect, they show me respect. I don't care what size it is, I know I am smarter than everyone else.

Even in high school I got them back by being smarter. When I went back for one of the reunions, I laughed inside because I was so much more successful then they were. The ones who made fun of me were all non-educated. So it's all relative to me..I don't care what the tag says.

If your shirt is a different color than the skinny girls..just remind them that you are one in a million!

Well, to update my shirt dilema...

The girls shirts all looked pretty much like the guys. HOWEVER, mine didn't "come in" for some reason, so I'm the only one getting to wear my old uniform and I still stand out anyway.

Oh well, I just keep telling myself "it won't be this way for very much longer".

Hi, I was banded on August 14, 2007 and have gained lots of great information reading here but have never posted. This post, however, struck a chord for me. Threw me right back to junior high school when my biggest worry was whether they would have a gym suit big enough for me. Of course it was an embarrassing ordeal in front of the whole class, sort of like when they weighed me in third grade! Someone went back and told the class I weighed 130 (in third grade). I guess these humiliations start early and keep on going. I don't have any great advice for dealing with these situations, except to say that in the long run, they do make you a more understanding and empathetic person. Deb

Four days post surgery. I am sipping as fast as I can and getting NO WHERE near the goal of 60 - 80 grams of protein or the 64 oz of liquids. I just feel FULL. I don't know if it can still be the gas build up (I would think by now that would be gone) but it is a struggle to drink. And so far I have not had the nausea or spasms and don't want to wander into that territory by pushing too hard with liquids. I about passed out today as it was my most "strenuous" day. Went from second story to basement for shower and I was sure I was going to pass out. Looking back on my last few days I have had a total of less than 1000 calories. Am I just not getting enough nourishment in me? Once again a friday where I can't get ahold of the doc until Monday rolls back around so I am hoping maybe someone here has some experience on how to keep energy going. I do have fibromyalgia too and that may be where some added fatigue comes into play. How did you all fair with the goals the week after surgery?

2 days until I fly out to San Diego to have my Bypass Surg. in Tiajuana Mexico. Not gonna lie, the nerves are starting to surface. I don't fear the surgery itself, or the fact that I'm traveling alone, but its the aftermath that I'm stressing about the most, after this 8 week wait. I'm excited to finally be here, but I am really dreading the post surgical chapter. I know its going to be tough, real tough and I think I'm just in my head to much now that the day i here. Wish me luck, Hopefully I'm one of the lucky ones, and everything goes smoothly. Cant wait to give an exciting update,. If there is anyone else have a June bypass or even a recent one, Id love to have someone to compare war stories with. Also, anyone near San Antonio Tx? See ya soon with the future me. 💜

I am back home after my bypass surgery in Tiajuana. I'm post op day 4. Everything went great! I guess I'm one of the lucky ones who have not encountered much pain at all, no nausea thus far and I'm having no problem keeping down broths and water. Thank you for your well wishes. I cant wait to keep up this journey and have a chance at better health and simply better quality of life. I know there will be bumps in the road ahead, and everything won't be peaches and cream, but at least I have a great start so far. 😍

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

      2. Doughgurl

Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

I hope your surgery on Wednesday goes well. You will be able to do all sorts of new things as you find your new normal after surgery. I don't know this from experience yet, but I am seeing a lot of positive things from people who have had it done. Best of luck!
