Always feeling tired:/

Recommended Posts

Hello!

I'm 4 days post op, is it normal to always feel tired when doing even the most minimal things? Like showering? Or putting clothes on? I swear massively after showering always!

Any advice?

I'm 9 days out and i feel much better than i did at 4 days. Give yourself some time. You're coming off of major surgery and you're not taking in the calories you once were. Remember to drink. Even if you aren't "thirsty". I find that if i forget for a significant amount of time i get REALLY weak and feel like I'm going to pass out. Just take it easy and pace yourself it gets better

@@mari12282 After major surgery, your body is in a major heal mode. So it may be a little bit before you feel recovered. The three most important elements after RNY gastric bypass surgery are to meet your daily Protein, Fluid and Vitamin requirements. food is secondary because your body is converting your stored fat into the energy that drives your body. Thus you lose weight. It is also important to do around 30 minutes of walking each day or equivalent exercise. Walking really helps the recovery process and also helps with pain management.

There are several things beyond recovery process that may cause you to become tired and sleepy. Not taking B12 daily could do it. Many pain medicines can have this side effect.

I am about 2 weeks out and I know what you mean. It does get better.

Your body is healing and that takes energy, plus the adjustment to the lack of calories.

Like now I feel better and get surges of energy but still don't have enough to sustain a full 8 hr day at work.

I was exhausted and unable to do much for the first three weeks. You were under general anesthesia and at four days out, it's still working its way out of your system. Rest when you have to, which will be often, and walk when you can. And good luck -- it gets better!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
