I asked my doctor about how much you are going to cut off my stomach. He said 50 or 55% only . I thought that is not much . I have heard lots of people saying 80% off . What do you think ???

I think this is so little and it won't do me good . My current weight is 365 lbs

That seems very low. I thought the average is 85%. Did you ask him why so low?

Is there a medical reason that he gave though because that still seems off unless you have had an ulcer or something that would prevent him from doing more. If he can't give a medical reason I would consider seeking a second opinion from a different surgeon.

Hi - I'm in Canada and asked the question "why do you take so much of the stomach?" (my husband was shocked by how much they take too). They said 'it won't work otherwise. All surgeries carry risk - we can't cut 1/2 out and then it doesn't work and then go back in and do it again. Research and experience says that 80-85% is what we take out". (she did talk about bougie, but I remember nothing of that!). Get a different surgeon. I wouldn't advise going through this without at least a 2nd opinion since the 1st surgeon isn't jiving with what everyone in here has learned.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
