Surgery was last night

Recommended Posts

So my surgery was last night.....I was in soooooo much pain it was unbelievable. Meds made me nauseous and so did walking around. I have not been able to fart, these gas pains are no joke.....and I've only been able to get down like 3 ice chips. Still in pain but not as bad as last night

@@Mnicole Try to walk, walk, walk - that's really the only way to get rid of the gas pains. It's not in your intestines - it's in your abdominal cavity. Even when sitting try to move - move your legs, arms, rock back and forth. Ask for something other than the pain meds that made you nauseous - and ask for anti-nausea meds - there's no reason to suffer if they can help. Hope you feel better soon!!!

@@Mnicole, I had my surgery Tuesday early am I was in ssssoooo much pain from the air in my body. My BP was extremely high hadn't been able to sleep or anything. I felt like I would take 1 step forward and 2 steps back. I put 2. & 2 together and believe it or not the morphine was contributing to the gas pain. I say this because when I finally was able to pass gas I had some relief, so I went gung ho on increasing my walking. Started feeling good then I would push the morphine button and BAM right back to day 1. I finally said to myself let's try a test. I asked them to take me off morphine pump. So they did, but then they continued to inject every 4 hrs the morphine. I then stopped that and asked them for something totally different. They gave me narco. But then that you can only get every 4 hrs. So of course after about 2 hrs I was in pain again. I had them call my surgeon and see if I could go back on certain meds I took on a daily basis, of course they just said, we are going to discharge you. This was at 11pm. Anyway I got home, crushed my meds and had some narco and tramadol here so I alternated every 1.5 hrs. And then was able to take my xanax and seroquel. I slept all night except to go to the bathroom. I now felt very stiff. I didn't crush any pain pills in the middle of the night but I did 1st thing in the am. My husband came home and couldn't believe the improvement I made since discharge. If you don't feel the meds are working talk to somebody about switching them. I know for a fact the morphine was not the best choice after 12 hrs post op. It's your body and only you can know what is working for you. I only explained this long winded story because ppl need to speak up during their recovery. We are not all the same.... keep me posted on your outcome

I was in the same boat, had surgery Wednesday, they put my on a fentynl pump and I was having lots of pain so they increased my dose overnight. Went for a walk at 6am yesterday morning and started dry heaving. That was the worst pain ever!! I then had to have a barium swallow test to check for leaks before I could sip any Water which made me dry heave some more by the time I got back to my room I was beat and it was only 11am yesterday. They switched my pain meds to torridol every 6 hrs and morphine as needed which I only needed a couple of times and viola...2 hours later I was walking and feeling great. Complete 180, oh I also had a scope patch to the back of my ear and zofran for the nausea.

Have them try different pain meds sometimes it's trial and error. The only thing I'm dealing with is a cramping feeling in my chest when i sip Water might be from the hernia repair they did.

Hopefully you feel better soon!!! Oh and k started farting about 24 hrs after surgery that made me feel better too

I can't believe how lucky I was. I see all these posts about extreme pain. I was hitting the morphine button pretty much every time I remembered it was there the day of surgery but I really don't remember any pain. Never had any of the gas issues. The worst part was no liquids. Surgeon said no liquids for 24 hours after surgery and I already been with no liquids for 12 hours prior.

Day 2 I was taking liquid Vicodin but only had two doses. I was only able to get a few steps at a time but food was going down okay.

Day three, there was that was really bad nausea and I had to take three different types of anti nausea medicine to get under control but that was it. I had one dose of liquid Vicodin in anticipation of a long car ride and a half a Vicodin when I got home but nothing since. One of the posters who was sleeve that pretty much the exact same time I was still needs Tramadol and Oxycodone to sleep. I do have problems with pressure in my chest when eating and often all day but nothing to the level of true pain. I've got to pray to the gods of weight loss surgery for sparing me some of the stuff that you guys are going through. You have my sympathies.

I was sleeved Wednesday. I was on a dilaudid pump while in the hospital. It eased the pain, but made me sleep more. I am home now. I was taking 5mg of oxycodon, but have found that Tylenol is waaaaay better. The narcotics just trick your brain into thinking you don't hurt. The Tylenol actually reduces the swelling so you don't hurt, plus it helps with the nausea since it is reducing the swelling in your stomach.

Most people think it is not good enough because it is over the counter.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Your so close now! It's gonna be great :) Wishing you a speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing how it goes!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
