4 weeks out and not losing weight

Recommended Posts

I am very concerned. Tomorrow will be 4 weeks out from my bypass surgery. I have only lost 11 pounds since my surgery. I had a week long hospital stay and gained 6 pounds in the hospital, and I've lost that too. I am getting bummed out and am wondering how this is even possible that I'm not losing weight while eating right around 500 calories or less and drinking tons of Water. Anyone had this happen? And what did you do?

happens to almost everyone - a stall within the first month of surgery. Search "three week stall" (that's what we call it, since it usually (although not always) occurs during week 3 post-surgery)

Goodness folks. These are not stalls. Stalls are considered stalls when the actually LAST three weeks!

Give your body the opportunity to heal, get used to its new way of living and digesting, utilizing the fuel you give it- it will.

Your job, at this point, is to eat to live, based upon the nutritional regimen your team gave you, and to get up and be active. That's it. That's ALL YOU NEED TO DO. It really IS THAT SIMPLE.

Keep off the scale. Seriously. Step away. If you are finding yourself upset, questioning or discouraged- leave it alone. Follow your plan and it will work.

When the scale does not move for 3 weeks- you're in a true stall. The rest is simply your body regrouping for changes.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
