Vomiting out of illness

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

Just wondering if anyone else has encountered this... I just had the flu but was unable to vomit... even when there was something in my stomach, it was all dry-heaving. It also seemed more painful than vomiting before the band. Just wondering.

Take care,

Lisa

Hi Lisa;

If it was me I'd call my Surgeon right away... he may want you to take a GRAVOL or some other antinausea drug... so as not to hurt your BAND..

You wouldn/t want to 'dislodge' it or have it FLIP on you...

Thinking about anatomy:

If we have a sectioned off stomach it stands to reason that nothing would come UP and OUT from the bottom portion of the stomach... as the BAND would stop it right?

the opening is small, hence when we are swallowing food... it has to be SO tiny to enable it to go down..

just my thoughts.

Good luck to you;)

Hi Lisa,

I had the same experience. I felt nauseous, then I had to throw up. I had nothing but dry heaves like you.

What if we get food poisoning? Doesn't our bodies need to throw up to get rid of the toxins?

Then I too thought about our new anatomy and it seems that it is impossible to throw up from our bottom stomach.

Any new info on this?

Thanks,

Miranda

Oh yes. I got travel sickness last spring after having been banded for 4 months. It really irritated the band site, so after I was over the illness, food started getting stuck on a regular basis, resulting in total closure of the band site so I couldn't even swallow my own spit. Had to have an emergency defill. The moral of the story is that if you are feeling even more restricted after the illness, get a few ccs removed and take it really easy on hard to get down foods like bread, or super chew food like meat. The dry heaves really can irritate the band site. Treat yourself well.

I also got sick, and vomitted so much that it caused enough irritation that I couldn't eat and barely drink, so I had to get a complete defill. Avoid vomitting out of sickness at all costs, cause you don't want a defill. (and the other possibilities of slips and such)

And I don't know how it is possible, but vomitting now is just as it was in the good old days... everything that should come up, does. But if I have a dry heave, I make the most god-awful sound... like a very loud, hollow, deep burp... nothing I'd ever had before!

I had the same thoughts about our new anatomy as well. It seems that it would take an awful lot of force to push contents up through the band and then out.

Wow, your experiences sound scary... irritation, slips and possible CLOSURE of the band... eek! When illness does happen again I will certainly be careful to watch my feeling of restriction. Thank you all for sharing your experiences.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
