drinking protein shakes after surgery..?

Recommended Posts

@@Dairymary OH, and BTW, my band never slipped. Got an upper GI to confirm that. The drs at the ER thought it was odd that I had a lapband, but they understood cultural differences and my special circumstances with eating problems.

If the nine US doctors that I saw at the ER were okay with me having a lapband, you should have NOTHING to say about that ? K? ;)

Hi,

I was just wondering, but 2-3 days after the surgery how much Fluid can you usually drink?

about How much of a Protein shake can you drink when you are allowed to drink it?

I am just scared that I will become nutrient deficient after the surgery (because I don't wanna lose any of my hair!!)

So I wanna make sure that I am able to drink at least an ample amount of Protein Shake after the surgery

Please let me know how many cups of liquid/protein drinks you were able to drink following your surgery!!

thanks for all the replies in advance!

It will be difficult, but you will need to do everything you can to get at least 64 oz of Fluid and to reach your Protein target (mine is 100 grams). Fortunately, for me, I was able to count my protein towards my fluid target. Sip, sip, sip like it is your job and you can do it.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
