You will be fine. Just take it slow and let your body heal. Also remember why you are having this done. Follow what your Surgeon and Nutritionist tells you too. The information they give you should help you with whatever you need to do. These sites are wonderful but each and every one of us has different ideas about what works. Each of your team ( DR Nurse and Nutritionist) have their own way of doing things. Good Luck

Great post! Great advice too!! I am still waiting on my approval... and it seems I am not nervous about the surgery at all, but the thought of eating and making decisions on my own after surgery and sticking to the plan after surgery TOTALLY FREAKS ME OUT!!!! Can I do it? What if I fail? What if I screw up? Will I know what to do? Will I be able to tell if I am full? Will I be able to resist the cravings? Am I strong enough for this? No lie... totally freaking out and I am not even approved yet. Anyone else go through this?

I'm still waiting for approval and my date too.. I'm not "freaking out" exactly but the thoughts have been in the back of my mind.. But Monday I started a 2 wk preop diet the doc wants me to do for 4 weeks and it's not going so bad.. I have a very small selection I can chose 6 serv a day from.. But no meat.. Drinking all my Protein.. I figure I quit cigz cold turkey because I want this that bad.. I got this! And I feel like reading these forums have helped me wrap my head more around it already.. WE got this!

I'm 11 months out now and my feelings of hunger are different. There isn't that feeling like if I don't eat(and a lot) that I'm going to die of starvation. Now, it's more like "oh, I need to eat" vs "I have to eat now, Now, NOW!!!!!!" It also takes a lot less to satisfy that hunger. It floors me sometimes how little I can eat and feel satisfied. The worst part post op was the desire to want to eat or even just to taste things when you can't. I remember my second day home I was cooking brats for my kids and thinking "God I just want to lick one!" But I powered through and left the room til the feelings passed. Chewing ice chips helped a lot to get that desire to chew out of the way. As far as gas pains, I didn't have any. My surgeon does his best to get all the gas out after the surgery and I never had any gas pains this time. When I had my gall bladder out 14yrs ago, the gas pains were insane so I was expecting to suffer through that, but was grateful I didn't. The most important thing to prepare yourself for IMO is the vast changes that will happen and FAST. There were days and still are sometimes that I would look in the mirror and not know who the face was looking back at me. It can be very scary sometimes especially if you've been overweight your whole life like I was. I honestly didn't know what I looked like under all the extra weight. ItMs like meeting yourself for the first time and it can be scary. Also, don't compare your progress to anyone else's. We all have our own starting points, mitigating factors, and biochemistry that play into how our results turn out. Just judge against yourself and take lots of pics along the way. It's easier to see your progress through photos than looking in the mirror.

I had a very similar pre op. 4 Protein shakes a day 6 servings of : yogurt, applesauce, sf pudding, oatmeal, v8 juice. Then unlimited non starchy veggies and 80 Oz fluids.

As far as gas pains go I had some of the worst. They got stuck in my ribs and didn't want to move. I am now dealing with some major back pain that has sidelined me the last 2 days. I'm 4 weeks post op

As far as hunger goes I'm dealing with a lot of head hunger and wanting to push myself faster to healing. I've been allowed to resume working out slowly. But I have to consume more than 800 calories a day to workout. With the pain I'm not getting in nearly as much as I need.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
