What should I pack?

Recommended Posts

I am away in college and will be coming home tomorrow & I will be staying home for a week before I return to school.

I will be home for almost a week & a half.

What are a good idea of things to take home with me and the hospital? Although I'll be there for one day..

A dress in case you don't tolerate the waist band of your pants. Charger for your phone. Clean undies for day going home. shoes to walk the halls. If you have any meds, bring them. That's it. Time goes fast. You phone and tv will occupy you.

1 day? See, i dont like the fact that for the same surgery, so many drs have so many different rules. My surgery was last tuesday at 7am. They repaired a small hernia while in there but his schedule was 1st day surgery, iv fluids only, and lots of walking. 2nd day morning upper gi to make sure sleeve didnt leak, and i was then given 1oz cups of Water all day, lots of walking. 3rd day introduced juice, Jello plenty of walking. Home the next morning. And i appreciated the fact that he takes the time to introduce each step to make sure hes not sending you home to figure it out. Hell, 1 day may as well be a outpatient surgery. Youre not even taking anything by mouth the 1st day to make sure theres no leakage. But ok. Good luck

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
