Help: advice needed. Smoking and setting surgery date

Recommended Posts

I've been delayed in setting a surgery date due to work obligations. I am also an occasional smoker (not cigarettes) but sheesha/hkah. I want to start my pre-op and set a date. Perhaps within the two week window. I have been good about staying away from carbs and sugar, but far from perfect.

I was thinking one week of pre-op then the surgery. Is this going to be very risky for me?

I did no pre- op and I had surgery Tuesday at 7:30 am. Today is my first day I feeling good. I left the hospital last night at like 11 pm because they kept giving me morphine. I told them at 4 pm I didn't want the morphine felt like I was taking 1 step forward 2 steps back every time they gave it to me. Today I crushed some tramadol and took my regular meds and I feel human again. I had asked them to give me my regular meds and they refused. So I said well I have them in my purse. What happens if I just take them. Wow the Doc was on the phone in an instant. She said your not getting the morphine so we can discharge you. It was fine for me.... so back to your question I'm not sure if not doing the pre/op diet had anything to do with the ungodly pain I felt. It's air in your body that hurts so much. And to be honest not really anything besides that. So not doing the diet??? IDK. But everyone in there was feeling the same pain. If you want answers to your other question get in touch with me through FB Michelle L Rose

I'm on medical cannabis. You only have to stop smoking nicotine because it causes issues with blood pressure. I never had to stop cannabis, smoked it right before I checked in the hospital last Tuesday and vaped it in my hospital bathroom during shower time since they wouldn't let me outside. Everything perfectly ok. Keep smoking your cannabis it's all good. It was the first thing I asked when they said at my first nutritional appointment that we had to stop smoking. Nicotine only.

Weed is legal here. My instructions say no smoking ANYTHING. I can use tiincture and eatables after 10 weeks. Probably should consult your surgon.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
