teedsg 253 Posted October 13, 2016 Hi, I'm 3months into my nutritional visits, and wondering when I can get my surgery date? I have 3 more visits to go. I have already done my psych visit. And the surgeon said I can do all my labs a day or two before surgery. I thought I have to do the labs before I could get approval. I have BCBS of Michigan through my Michigan based employer and I live in Georgia. Thanks everyone! KristenLe 5,979 Posted October 13, 2016 @@teedsg It all depends on your surgeon but typically you need to complete all of the nutritional visits and any other insurance requirements before they'll submit for authorization. Most surgeon's won't book surgery until the authorization has been approved. Then they'll schedule surgery - and order bloodwork and pre-op testing (they don't usually order this until approval because it needs to be done within 30 days of surgery (usually). Stephanie 73 Posted October 13, 2016 I had all my requirements done by my family Dr which took 6 months, then had to visit the surgeons office.. I say surgeons office because I never met my surgeon until about an hour before the surgery. At the office I met with the PA who made the appt after putting me on the pre op diet that was 2 weeks of strict diet then an appt to come back to check if I was following the diet. I was scheduled for March 1 but when I returned for the last appt the PA said I had an infection and even though I was almost finished taking the antibiotics he rescheduled the surgery for another 2 weeks. I didn't care much for this PA and he never followed up with me except one time after the surgery. I was on my own for the entire weight loss process. So you should have your appointment when they put you on the pre op diet.

Aggiemae 739 Posted November 5, 2016 I finished The last of the 6 monthly classes required by my insurance on October 4. Had my sleep study a week later and my pre open visit on October 20th. I was given preoperative diet instructions and left the office thinking my surgery would be in two weeks.... On October 21st I got the call to be at the hospital at 6 am on October 25th!!!! I barely had time to order a few weeks supply of powders?utm_source=BariatricPal&utm_medium=Affiliate&utm_campaign=CommentLink" target="_ad" data-id="1" >unjury Protein powder. The six months of pre surgery requirements dragged on a bit but it seems like things move very fast after insurance gives the OK.
Aggiemae 739 Posted November 5, 2016 If you followed all their requirements, your insurance will approve your surgery.

Wow! I hope that happens to me. I was really wanting to get it done by the end of the year, now, I have to wait until next year and have to pay a deductible! SMH! Aggiemae 739 Posted December 3, 2016 Call and ask to be put on the wait list. People cancel surgery at the last minute or get a cold or haven't stopped smoking all the time. Remember to let the surgery scheduler know that you will stop eating a 6pm every evening in case you get called, Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
