Pain Medication

Recommended Posts

I tend to avoid pain medication whenever possible. But sometimes there is a need, especially after a major surgery. I have noticed over the last 68 years of my short life that the government tends to avoid punishing the guilty but rather passes overly restrictive laws that punishes everyone including the innocent. It is just what they do! Anyways I read this article and thought it might explain why the next time you go into surgery and seek pain medication but instead they supply you with a harpist. What is afoot! http://acsh.org/news/2016/10/07/gonna-throw-away-your-used-narcotics-10270

It is a bit of humor but sadly it is also reality.

I am not a pain pill fan either, but those first 3 days post-op, I was thankful for them. They wrote me a prescription for 30, and I think I may have used 9 of them.

I will say that the addiction issue of others unfairly impacts those who take medicine as directed. During my six-month pre-op diet, I was prescribed phentermine. Now, I have taken phentermine many different times over the past 20 years, but it was always coming from a clinic where you got the pills at the doctor's office. In this case, the surgeon's NP wrote a prescription that I had to have filled. Every month, it was such an ordeal. I had to get it filed on the exact day of the month, and I was always treated like some sort of criminal when I was simply trying to get a prescription refilled. I am glad to be done with that part of my journey.

I whole heartedly agree. I think it's a shame that those of us who can use them responsibly have to be punished for those who can't. The ones I feel the most for are the people with chronic pain.

There have been times after surgery where I have legitimately needed pain meds due to a running injury or major dental work, and even explained to the doctors that I couldn't take ibuprofen because of the surgery. They STILL wouldn't prescribe them. It's utter bullsh*t.

I felt like a criminal when I had to get my prednisone refilled a few times, you should have seen me go round and round with the pharmacist on that. The dr. changed my dosage but according to the "computer" I wasn't due for any more.

I can only imagine what it would be like for pain pills.< /p>

It is absolutely ridiculous how the pendulum has been swung. I hate pain medication but there are times with my back problems that it is necessary. Well, it is near impossible to get a prescription for pain anymore unless you have had surgery.

I think ultimately what will happen is actual drug addicts will become more addicted to alcohol because they can get it very easily.

I take nothing for pain now at all and of course cannot take nsaids so there are times when i feel absolutely useless because i either have a heating pad or an ice pack on my body mostly every day all day long. Tylenol does absolutely nothing but then again neither did pain meds so.......the moral of the story is pain meds are good for acute type pain and work in the short term but do nothing for chronic pain. I do miss alieve, at least at one time that seemed to take the edge off.

This has been my experience.....anyway.

I sooo agree I have three kids who are autistic and I have to travel a half hr every 30 days per child so I make 6 round trips a month for prescriptions for kids at that all bc of drug addicts and pill abusers I think they need to punish those offenders and not everyone. I could go on and on about this subject. It's bad enough the money you pay for prescriptions let alone the gas you pay going back and forth for them. I could maybe even somewhat understand if the meds were pain meds but they are nothing but pills to help the moods with autistic children. It's an absolute shame.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
