Hi All,

My name is Carol and I live in Melbourne Australia and will be having Lab Band surgery late in November.

I am 5ft 9" and nearly 120 kilos I have always been a big person and all tried diets have failed and end up putting more back on that I lost in the first place.

I will be having my lapband surgery at Knox Private Hospital and would like to know how others have gone after surgery. I am extremely nervous about after the anasetic as I usually have violent vomitting.

At the moment I eat very fast and do not chew my food thoroughly, I have been told that I will learn quickly as I will not like the consquences if I don't. Does anyone have any hints before hand.

Getting excited to hopefully be a new person.

Looking forward to hearing from you:heh:

Hey Carol - I have just found this site today, I am in Queensland and being banded end of October. I have just read Prof. P. O'Brien's book "Lap Band Solution" and it is great - lots of down to earth advice, and truths.... I got it from Dymocks for $24.95. I also have the books from Trudy Williams & FoodTallk: diet, gastric band, lap band, food portion serves the pocket gastric band guide, and nutrition guide for lap band.....they are good too.

Hope to talk to alot more people who are inspirational on this site, good luck with everything..................... Cheers Karen

Don't worry about learning to eat slowly and chew chew chew. Believe me.....You'll be so cautious as first and when you have restriction, you'll be punished if you don't. I too was a fast eater, and I have found that turning off the TV at meal time helps. So does taking a deep breath first and then concentrating on eating, almost like a meditation. I spent a lot of years in an eating trance. Now my trance is about honoring the food and my body.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
