I am super nervous the closer i get. I have my first consult with the surgeon on oct 20th and i have already done all the tests and requirements so i dont know what to expect for a timeline for when my surgery might be. Im a big planner and this is driving me crazy not knowing. Anyone on here feel like sharing how long from meeting with the surgeon to actually having the surgery that you had to wait?

My first meeting with the surgeon's staff was March 3, 2016. My surgery date was September 28, 2016.

I'm Close to the same stage as you. Monday is my pre-op and surgeon meeting, a few days later endoscopy and then sleep study right after that. Should be wrapped up with a bow and off to insurance by the end of the month.

I'm telling myself December so I don't get too crazy.

I have already had the endoscopy and a gauntlet of other tests because my insurance does the 6 month thing prior to sending you to the surgeon so it makes me extra nervous that it might be soon and the not knowing is killing me....cant wait for my appt on the 20th it cant come soon enough

I think it just depends on diff things for diff people and how your surgeon does things compared to others plus all insurances are different as well.. My first meeting with the surgeon was way back in January and the first thing I had to do was be off cigz for 2 months before he'd even let me begin all the tests n stuff.. Then had some issues come up with some of those.. But my last appt me he told me he wanted me to do 4 weeks of the 2 week pre surg diet starting this past Monday, I see him the 20th,hopefully by then they will have gotten my approval and a date for my surgery

I feel like this is taking a long time, but then I read what you all are doing and I seem to be moving pretty quickly. October 22 will be 2 months and I will be done with all requirements by November 1st. That's like 10 weeks or so. I just hope there are no red flags on the tests and that there is still room on the surgery schedule.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
