Any one had BPD w/ DS? Or considered it?

Recommended Posts

Hi there, I recently had my band removed due to several issues since placement in sept 2008. My insurance company revised there policy on their revision surgeries. I had appealed it all the way to the state level in 2012 and denied, they said not medically/clinically necessar . Gained all my weight back since the after having 2 babies. Made an appointment to see my surgeon in July after I found Priority Health's revised policy on a fluke.fHe mentioned the BPD with DS is an option for the "super obese". I had to decide after my appt on Tuesday so they can submit for approval. I went for long term success over safety. With 2 little girls at home, I hope I chose right!

I'm a different candidate (RnY) but I'm backing you emotionally. For me it's also 1 son instead of your 2 little ladies but like you I'm going in eyes wide open. You want a chance to be in their lives instead of a mommy memory. Some just don't lose easy, you and I had a cave ancestoress who hibernated like winter bears. I was a strong big girl now I'm a wearing- out lady. My daily health says No more Rosey, have the surgeon prune you back, yeah but when the pruning is done it will be up to me to keep growing straight. Its a tool for you and me also. Do what ya gotta do, babe, that's my motto also! Love and Hugs Rosey

It totally changes the game after having kids. When I was first appealing my insurance for the 2nd surgery I didn't have kids and didn't give it a 2nd thought. I was looking at RNY but have since heard of this procedure from my surgeon. I was all geeked and prepped for it until I did my official consult and the risks now that reality has hit it could get approved this time. Love that, Do what ya gotta do. Thanks for your input.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
