erica2185 84 Posted October 13, 2016 Bmi 45 as well as hypothyroidism is that alone a qualifier for my insurance? Also have sleep paralysis and chronic neck pain. Sent from my SM-G530T using the BariatricPal App
sammy246 235 Posted October 13, 2016 Usually a BMI of 40+ is all that is needed as far as weight. 35+ is what needs accompanying co-morbidities Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
erica2185 84 Posted October 13, 2016 Wow great thank you I hope its as easy as that☺ Sent from my SM-G530T using the BariatricPal App
LuvyDee 24 Posted October 13, 2016 I have UH in georgia. @@sammy246 is correct. Uh also required a 6 month supervised weight program, with monthly nutrition appointments, psych evaluation, and Fitness evaluation. Mine did not indicate any required weight loss, but they do want to see you are losing weight and making an effort. Call your insurance company and ask if your plan covers bariatric procedures. Good luck to you!
erica2185 84 Posted October 13, 2016 So how does the nutritional visits go and what do they expect? If I could loose weight in 6 months easily I would not need the surgery lol...and would that work against me if I did loose in those 6 months?... I go to my surgeon consultant next week I have no clue as to what to expect. Sent from my SM-G530T using the BariatricPal App
cperetz3 4 Posted October 13, 2016 I have uhc too and had to complete the 6 month supervised weight loss and lost over 30 pounds in that time. I was told they wanted to see that I could follow the plan and be successful during that period. Honestly I think it helped me a lot to have that time, adjust my lifestyle and really understand what I was doing to my life with this surgery. Also they offered me a nurse line to help with the process, it was free and she helped me with some of the insurance details that got me approved faster Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G891A using the BariatricPal App
Rosey posey 176 Posted October 13, 2016 Question time okay. Somebody told me when they start this Healthcare/Obamacare because they had to cover maternity etc Bariatics got grandfathered in also. Has anybody heard this also about insurance companies and health plans? Sent from my S55 using the BariatricPal App
Rosey posey 176 Posted October 13, 2016 One of the reasons I've been set back on the speed of case was I had 4 of 6 no on UHC then lost job and insurance and had to jump thru different hoops with the new health plan. mylastchance21 82 Posted October 13, 2016 I have UHC through my employer and the process has been easier then I imagined. I actually got approved before completing my 6 nutritional visits, I only did 4. File was submitted and approved in 3 days. BMI over 40 and no comorbitities. My surgery is scheduled for 11/3 Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

But I think it depends on ur state too. Ur bmi and everything else u should be qualified. I had to lose 5% of my body weight which was like 24 lbs in 6mos with a nutritionist. teedsg 253 Posted October 13, 2016 @@mylastchance21, That is awesome! I know this post is for UHC, I just couldn't help to read more. I hope BCBS does that for me. I'm in month 3 of nutritional visits. :-) Best of luck to you @@erica2185! You're definitely a candidate.
mylastchance21 82 Posted October 13, 2016 I was so upset when my surgeon's office submitted my file because I just knew it would be denied because I hadn't completed all the nutrition visits but by the grace of God it worked out!
