Will I be able to walk about half a mile 5 days post op?

Im getting sleeved in mexico next week and have a small issue. My husband will be at work when my plane lands. Im planning on getting an uber to pick me up but my 2 yr old daughter will be at daycare, which is about half mile from my house. Do you think at that point ill be ok to walk her home? I know Im not supposed to drive yet. Im mostly healthy, 37 and 280lbs

Check with your doctor but I was able to walk 30 minutes even though I didn't want to lol. You have to judge how you feel.

Yes, as long as you walk walk walk as much as you can right after surgery and try to walk as much as you can every 2 hours. That helps your body heel the most. Just take your time, and remember one step as a time..

Yes, I am 7 days post op and I definitely would've been able to. Just don't pick her up!

By day five I was getting in excess of 1.5 miles per day, close to 2 miles...but it was spread out over three sessions of walking per day.

Depends on how in shape you are before surgery. If you can't walk a mile now, you won't be able to immediately afterwards, either. But if walking a couple miles/day is something your body is used to, you shouldn't have any problem. My normal daily routine included walking 5-10 miles/day, and I was able to return to that within a week of surgery. Wishing you an easy and quick recovery!

Yes I would walk a mile on the treadmill by day 6

Just wanted to add that as long as you are not taking pain meds, you can drive. I drove on day 4.

Thank you all. I feel better now. I do walk a lot now so with what I see here, I should be fine. And the question of why mexico.. Ive been fighting insurance for 10 months and ready to move to the next step. After my research I feel comfortable going there, maybe more than in the usa
