justwaitin2b banded in October and a bit scared

Recommended Posts

Hi Karen,

To answer your question...I ride on my bike 20 miniutes a day. I usually try to do it in the morning before my shower. It helps to put on the TV to pass the time. Or, I just look out my window to watch the birds, deer, or groundhogs in the back yard. When I started riding I just did it for 10 minutes and worked my way up to 20 minutes.

I teach at Fort Dix Elementary School. Most days, when I get home I'm not in the mood to bike ride for 20 minutes. All I want to do is sit down and relax for a few minutes before cooing diner.

I found it harder to loose weight if I didn't excersise. I think the trick is to start off slow and work with your body. If you don't have a bike try walking. As a kid I never was much into playing sports.

But, I really want to make this work. I guess they call it work for a reason. Anyway, hang in there! Have a great day. Jane

thanx Jane - I can't beleive you actually have deer and groundhogs in your back yard - I thought that only happened to Chevy Chase!! lol... I do have a treadmill and a bike - both are great for folding laundry and collecting dust - I will try harder soon, I promise!! I understand why you have no passion for exercise after work, I have 3 muchkins of my own, my hubby works away, and I am a daycare Mum for 4 other ones, while mine are at school..............after work, I could care less..... talk soon, karen

Hey Karen,

Thanks for replying to my questions. I've read your thread waiting2b banded, and some of the things you were saying about having friends, but not really anyone you could talk to, sounds so familiar. They don't understand the feelings and emotions we are going through in this stage while waiting to be banded. My husband loves me to death and has always been there for me, and has never, never said anything to me about losing weight, he loves me for me. Something my family all my life has failed to do, even myself, I suppose I have failed myself to just accept me for me. Well he's even sick of hearing anything to do with the banding, maybe you understand the need and the excitment to know as much as I can, and to read and see as many success stories as I can. I'm kinda in a bad space at the moment, I'm scared about how successful I will be, if I see all the photos of people before and after enough maybe it'll convince me enough that, that will be me one day. Because like you said it seems so sureal.

Penny

Hey Karen, it's Penny here. I start my Optifast on the 25th Sept for 2 weeks. No I haven't read any books, I've totally been going on info from the web and from my mother in law, who was actually banded by Doctor George Fielding at the Wesley in Brisbane, but as far as I am aware he is in New York working at this point in time. MIL has been a great help and source of encouragment. Where abouts are you and could we maybe exchange email addresses.

Hugs Penny

Hi Everyone, I'm new to the forum and found it by complete accident.

I hopefully get my band in 4 weeks time and feel heaps better now that I know that I'm not losing my mind with wanting to read everything on the net that I can find. I'm really really nervous but it's great to know that it everyone feels like this too.

Wow - Okay well I'm new to this forum, not really sure what I'm doing. I am 38 yrs old, and have 7 1/2 weeks until I am banded. I have read everything I can find on Lap Band surgery, and feel prepared medically............ but mentally - I am scared!! I am scared that if I put myself and my family through all of this, and it doesn't work - what then??? I am 114kgs (sorry not good with pounds - I'm Aussie) and am not very tall at 5ft 4....... putting my BMI at 45. I have waited 10 months for my insurance period to expire, so I can get this done, I have tried every other weightloss plan/diet known to man, and I have researched every detail............... why then do I feel like screaming or crying half the time, and excited the rest...................I feel lonely, and scared! I can't see myself losing the weight, and changing my life like so many of you have....... it does not seem real.

I don't have many close friends I can talk with, and the ones I do have don't understand.................. I'm hoping for support and motivation from this forum, and I look forward to getting to know you all - Cheers Karen

I would love to chat sometime, but I need to take my middle princess back up to bed now, she has been lying on the floor in my office while I mucked around on the puta.............. catch up soon, Karen

When did you have your surgery? How was your experience? I eat very fast and cannot imagine myself eating slow. Did you have to give up any specific foods or really cut back. I hear horror stories about chicken and that is probably to only meat I really eat quite a few days a week. I am still thinking about my decision on to have it done or not. Sometimes I think yes I will other days I say no. Let me know. Thanks.

Hi D,Lew..... I have not been banded yet - 6 weeks to go, I am nervous and excited - they are completely normal emotions. I have researched lapband for 12 months - and what I can tell you is that banding is the most flexible, safest, adjustable and permanent weight loss method ever - however it is still just a tool, you will need to follow guidelines... I have pasted a really good link here: Lapband Lifestyle - We are here to help you in your changing life!

I have found the more I read and learn, the more confident I feel - good luck on your decision, and feel free to chat anytime..... hugs Karen

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
