First soup since post op broth

Recommended Posts

So feel like I'm getting a cold so decided to have a bowl of onion Soup just to warm up. and the all the gurgling noises, I neved did those noise before sleeve when sipping soup, (I feel like I could do the whole Dinosaurs sound effects for the next Jurassic Park) does it ever go away or am I stuck with that soundtrack for the rest of my life? I'm pretty sur it's ain't heartburn or reflux as it happens the second I swallow the soup (or any hot beverage) but those noise are kind of embarrassing when there's people around.

I can't be alone with that issue am I?

You're not alone. It happens to me with drinks. And can be loud! I didn't do much broth, everything was too salty so I ate a lot of applesauce. I'm having a yogurt now and it's going bubble bubble. I'm 4 weeks out, can't speak to the does it go away part.

My theory is that it is just air getting trapped in the stomach when you swallow food and it gurgles because all the bubbles have to find a way back out and that movement makes noise. The reason it didn't happen pre-op was because we had huge stomachs with plenty of room for a few air bubbles. Everything wasn't so constricted and they could ease their way out without pressure. They had room group together into a single burp, instead of each bubble getting squeezed out right away.

I find it happens less when I eat carefully to avoid swallowing air and gulping.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
