Hello

My name is Margaret and I am thinking about getting banded. I am 45 years old, married and have a 7 year old son. I need to lose about 100 pounds. I have tried every diet there is. I am considering going to Mexico and I quess I just want to know that it is safe. I do worry about fills however. How does that work? Can I get them in the States? Any advice out there?

Margaret

Welcome to the group. I take it that you your insurance does not cover wls surgery? Have you check to see if there is going to be any changes in 08 in regards to this. I happen to be reviewing are medical plan and found that it had been changed and so now my wife is having surgery a week from today Sept. 12 and 2 weeks for me. Sept. 19. We are both very excited about this.

There are several places in the US that have low prices for the band. One of the things that I here a lot from people is trying to get fills etc. You need to check with doctors in your area and see what they will do. Also I would make sure you check all the doctors out and just not go with the lowest price. What part of the US are you from?

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
