I don't think my appointment can come soon enough. My consultation is November 8. I am going crazy waiting for it to get here. I just want to get everything started. It seems like it is forever away! I need a plan and details and right now I have none of that and am waiting. I can't be the only one who is having this problem or has went through it!

I think everyone here has been through this. Most of us made it to the wonderful end.

I'm in the middle of it! It does go by quickly. My first consult was sept 6th, that same day I got all my appts scheduled. I have 2 left before I meet with the surgeon again then paperwork should be submitted to insurance!

You're not alone in how you feel! I felt the same way about the waiting. I started the process in July/August. I likely won't finish the insurance approval steps until February. Surprisingly, the time is going faster than I thought. Do you have a lot of pre-authorization things to do?

@@AmberMarie86 Use this time to prepare yourself as much as possible. Learn and practice eating how you will need to post-op. Figure out ways of combating head hunger and cravings. Start cleaning out closets. Get organized. Waiting sucks but make good use of the time!

@@KristenLe I never thought to clean out my closets, but it makes sense. I have been reading and watching videos to try to prepare myself as best I can. I don't want to do too much yet as far as buying things until after I have the consult and then I think I will be doing everything I can to get ready. I am a planner and have lists and things organized as much as I know how and can. Thank you for all the advice! I am looking for anything I can get.

I remember feeling like that last December when I started this. It was an extremely long road with a lot of time and work put into getting approval from insurance. In the end I was denied...five times. I am going to mexico next week. I am soooo ready for this to become a reality.

@Brenda Sherwood You were denied 5 times? That is crazy! I have called the insurance company to make sure everything is good before my consultation. I don't think I will have a problem with that but who knows with insurance companies. I hope you have save travels and your surgery goes well! I will be thinking about you!

I finished my six month appointment last week and now I'm just waiting for the call with my surgery date. This week has gone by soooooo slowly! I'm just excited to get going, as I know you are too. Good luck, it will get there before you know it!

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
