How many carbs should I be eating per week?

Recommended Posts

I wasn't given a weekly goal, but a daily limit of no more than 60 carbs per day. In addition to not eating anything from a list of high carb foods such as grains, starchy vegetables, sweets, and tropical fruits.

I did a low carb diet for six months pre-op (and lost 99 pounds by surgery day), so I am continuing to keep my carbs below 20 even as I progress through these stages (clear liquids, full liquids, purees, soft, etc.). The downside in that is that there are often limited low/no carb options early on. For instance, I am really on full liquids from Day 10 until Day 21 because all of the new items that you can have at Day 14 are full of carbs (no sugar applesauce, ripe banana, cream of wheat, oatmeal, etc.).

My plan is to go right back to my meat and non-starchy vegetables diet with the help of the sleeve's restriction once my new tummy can tolerate those things.

This approach is obviously not for everyone, but it has worked wonders for me. Carbs are my addiction and enemy, and I am going to have to minimize them as much as possible for the rest of my life. I'm sure you'll get some other helpful suggestions from other posters, but I'd recommend that you ask your nutritionist as well.

Good luck!

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
