Your thoughts on my progress/ questions on sickness

Recommended Posts

I went about 4 weeks without losing and just lost about 3.5 pounds this week.

I was sleeved 8/2

Day of surgery I was 264.5

Today I am 228

Total loss of 36.5 pounds in three months. That seems so low. I know, everyone is different but it makes me nervous how I didn't lose anything for almost 4 weeks and the pounds yo yo. Trying not to weigh everyday. My scale stays in the same spot and i weigh the same time of day when I do weigh myself. And I exercise for at least 30 min a day. I went from size 22/24 to 18/20 so haven't lost a crazy amount of inches. I am staying low carb, high Protein. I do have a sleeve of steel. Literally. Which is a blessing and a curse. Thoughts?

Also... I cannot catch a break with getting sick. In the last three months I've been sick every few weeks. I have a really bad case of bronchitis right now. Been to the doctor 3 times. Is this normal post op? Getting sick slows down everything, too. Did anyone else get so sick all of the time. Hmph.

Some days, I think... "is this it? Is this all I'm going to lose?" Because I had been so stuck for a month. But just staying on track. If anything, this is 36.5 pounds I wouldn't have lost without vsg and I'm grateful.

Also, what are your fav go to lean protein Snacks?

@@madisunshine1 I think that's a good loss- it's really only 2 1/2 months (not even). If you are sticking with the plan - meeting your Protein and Water goals - then this won't be all you've lost. Change things up a bit if you hit a stall - change your exercise, increase Protein, increase healthy fats, decrease carbs and see if it helps - but as you know - stalls are common. Be sure to take your Vitamins - that may help combat any sickness. Your immune system is probably a little low.

@@madisunshine1 Girl, you are HARD on yourself. First, by my handy dandy calendar, you aren't even 2.5 mos out...you have another 3 weeks till you hit 3 mos! And really, you've lost 36.5 in less than that because you've been stuck for a month.

Being sick can really derail your weight loss and this is a typical time of the year for getting sick. All of our kids go back to school (aka the Petri dish) and start bringing home the virus du jour, plus we're easing into flu season as well. I had shoulder surgery last month and my loss has slowed dramatically, since my body is busy doing something else...so is your's when you're sick.

Have you been able to track your food and Water intake? I can't remember if you have access to a dietitian or a nutritionist, but if you do, have you been able to meet with them and talk about this?

I tend to lose in little clumps right now...I'll go 3 or 4 days at exactly the same weight, then it bumps down half a pound or maybe more. Others here seem to be losing at a faster rate, but I know I'm following plan so I'm pretty chill about it. I don't know or know of ANYONE who had the surgery and stayed on plan that didn't reach their goal or darned close to it.

Hang in there...like you said, it's 36.5 lbs you wouldn't have lost otherwise and I KNOW there's more weight loss in your future :)

Thanks for being so encouraging. I think we all expect better of ourselves. And I've made little oopsies here and there. But thank you so much for your words of encouragement and HOPE.

I've been tracking food and liquid intake yes. Doing well.

What are you some of your fav lean Protein Snacks?

@@madisunshine1 I love cheese, and I've now become a huge fan of Moon Cheese. It's crunchy and cheesy and amazing...now I want some! I like almonds, and also low sodium/low sugar beef Jerky. I found a brand that was awesome when I was traveling last month, but I threw the bag away and can't remember the name of it :( String cheese is great, too. I like to wrap it, along with a spear of pickled asparagus, in a piece of black forest ham. That's more than a snack, more like lunch, but it's yummy. I eat some carbs, so my favorite Protein bars are now the ones by FitJoy...they truly taste like what they say they are (ie pumpkin pie) and they don't give me that heavy feeling after I eat them.

What are you best Snacks? I feel like I eat the same things over and over and over and over...

We eat very similar things! I enjoy almonds and love the blue diamond almonds and get different flavors. I avoid the sugar ones. But love the habanero BBQ & salt and vinegar almonds. Love Colby jack cheese sticks. Beef jerky is good. But I have very specific ones that are low carb low sugar. I love making mini turkey burgers. I also LOVE roasted chicken wings. Especially from taco Mac. I love one specific be kind bar- it's the one with 5G of sugar and 8 net carbs. It's the cinnamon pecan flavor. I do enjoy Atkins trail Protein Bars. I also love salmon for a meal. And occasionally a slim Jim. Haha. Water is really heavy on my tummy. I drink unsweet tea a lot. Water usually has to be infused.

My weightloss is very similar to @ShelterDog64. We were sleeved within a couple of days of each other and her words are wise. I lose in waves. Had a stall that lasted 2 weeks, then I lost 3 lbs and went right back into stall for a week. They happen for almost all of us.

I don't let myself get frustrated very much because it is what it is. Went on vacation for 8 days and gained 2 lbs. I expected it because although my food intake was good, I got behind on liquids (except when I had wine. Ha ha.)

Now I have lost that and 3 more. I have a ways to go so I am down for the long haul. You are doing great. I don't snack except for a rare piece of cheese so I have nothing to offer there.

Don't worry, you aren't the only one who feels like they are losing slower than everyone else. I was sleeved one week after you with similar stats - surgery weight 263 now I'm at 239.

It is driving me crazy because I stall and stall then lose 2 lb, then stall some more. I thought it would go faster....

But, we just have to be patient and focus on the positives. Like you said, I know that I would never have lost this much in 2 months without the surgery.

Stay strong and focused and know that not everyone loses fast. In fact I suspect we are the normal ones. We'll get there eventually! ????

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
