Is meal delivery service an option?

Recommended Posts

Hi there!

Sleeved 10/4 and down 11 pounds. I understand what to eat/drink during each phase but when I go to full foods after a month, I honestly do not have time to think about what to make for dinner. My lifestyle has been hectic lately. I travel for work and when I get home, I don't want to think...sounds strange, I know.

Is meal delivery service an option? I have seen some meal delivery services such as Home Chef or Blue Apron, Freshly where there are high Protein, low carb meals ready to make at home. Any suggestions would be helpful

I tried a free trial of Hello Fresh this week. Can't say I was super impressed. Lots of carbs in the things they sent...Tortilla wraps, rice & Pasta. It was the classic box and there is an option for "fit" meals but the amount of food for what it would have cost was astronomical. just my experince so far!

Nope, it is a waste of money. All the stuff is loaded with carbs and you are going to end up wasting money.

I use Blue Apron and like it. Pre-op it was easy to choose easily adaptable recipes and make mine low-carb (the rest of the family would eat as is). I am 12 days post-op now and still on full liquids so not eating the meals, but they have still been great for my family because I don't have to think about what I am going to feed them (it arrives, we fix it). That said, if I didn't have a family to feed it wouldn't be worth it.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
