Too much food?

Recommended Posts

I was sleeved on 9/28, and have had an absolute textbook recovery; walking over a mile five days after surgery, doing laundry, getting in all my Water & Protein, and back to work a week after surgery. My question is this: now that I am on puréed food, I thought I would recognize the "full" feeling. I ate a 5.3 oz. cup of oikos yogurt for lunch. Since my dietician said my stomach would initially hold 2ounces, shouldn't I feel stuffed? I feel like I'm satisfied, but not full like I overate. Does the puréed food pass through very quickly like the liquids? Will I not feel truly full until I am on regular food? Doing great, but feeling a little confused.

@@Ssearle You should be measuring your food and sticking with the recommended portions. Something like yogurt is going to go through your sleeve rapidly - you won't necessarily feel full. The goal isn't to feel full anyway - just satisfied.

You are not yet fully healed and therefore shouldn't rely on feelings of fullness. Also you won't really feel your restriction until you take in dense Protein like chicken. Yogurt actually counted as a liquid on my plan so it definitely won't give you the same feeling as if you had eaten dense protein. As Kristen said, right now you really need to measure your portions and stick with it and accept that the goal isn't to eat until you feel full or stuffed.

What are the recommended portions? My puréed & liquid diets just gave guidelines of 60-80 grams of Protein & 60 ounces of liquid every day and 500-800 calories per day. No mention of portion size.

I am 3 1/2 weeks post op. Can eat puréed chicken and ground turkey and veggies. About 1/2 cup I feel stuffed. I ate too much one time and it seemed to "get stuck" in my throat. So, I stick to 1/2 cup of whatever it is and quit. I agree that yogurt passes through pretty quickly but again, I try to eat no more than 1/2 cup. I also bought a variety of Bariatric Pal Protein Soups and they are pretty good much they pass on through pretty quickly and it's not long before you think you need to eat again. Good luck!

yogurt is a slider food it's basically liquid goes through just like Water which is why you should measure it out

Aha! This was so good for me to read! I am still pre-op, but I have been eating a lot of soft high-protein foods like greek yogurt (with chia seeds to slow down the digestion), plain cottage cheese and ricotta cheese. I tend to eat 2 of these in the morning, around 8 and 11, but I find myself still hungry (stomach hunger, mostly). Maybe I need to eat more *dense proteins*, but I don't eat meat, so it's hard. I do eat fish (such as tuna), but I don't like to bring it to work so much.

@@ginabee38 Beans, hard boiled eggs, add veggies to your meals.

Thank you! Tonight I added some fresh raw broccoli and some large grape tomatoes with some low-fat ranch dressing. I also had a veggie hod-dog (not terrible, but not even close to the real thing). My stomach-hunger is definitely better, but my head-hunger is still there. I know the head-hunger will still be there post-op, but I'm praying it lets up a bit...at least for awhile!

@@ginabee38 I hear you - head hunger is brutal. I've been coming up with recipes for my mushy food stage that I can't have until 10/26! Lol

So, you're still on liquids? My surgeon told me that we can go home on purees if we can tolerate it. Based on everything else I've read, it scares me a bit to go to purees so quickly. How far out are you?

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Your so close now! It's gonna be great :) Wishing you a speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing how it goes!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
