What should you be eating now? Should you be eating solids? You will generally not feel restriction now until after a couple of fills. The first fill we think will take care of it an be magic and take our hunger away. It does not. Most people report that it takes three or more fills to get to that "sweet spot" of restriction. Certainly at least two fills at a minimum.

Get back on plan whatever stage that is!

to FAITHMD......I was reading some old posts last night & came across some of yours that seemed to me you were unhappy with the band & thinking it was a mistake. How do you feel about it now? Alot of those posts also were about BP's and from a poster who had just experienced the pain & grossness(for lack of better word) of it. These old posts freaked me out a bit & now I am worried about having all sorts of problems. Are you happy with it now?

Hi Marnie, I don't recall ever being unhappy with the band. I think almost all of us go through a period where we ask ourselves what the heck we did to ourselves. We second guess ourselves and ask why we did it, could we have lost it on our own, etc. I know that the band was an important tool to have installed. I'm glad I have it. Very glad.

I think you should be on the mushie stage. Be very careful of solids until your surgeon tells you it is okay. Also, it is normal to eat like a normal person if you have started your fills. My surgeon recommends 6 weeks after surgery to begin the process of fills. It took me several months to get the spot that I eat less. Good luck.

I was banded about a month ago and my surgeon told me I only had to eat 1 week of liquids, 1 week of soft foods, and then I could eat solid foods, so I would assume you should be alright. Have you had a followup with your surgeon yet? I would think they would have given you all this information in writing after your surgery.

I got my band in Ky. I got a hand book with step by step instructions. It's a good thing, because I never got to see the surgeon again. A nurse practioner took over & does all my fills, etc.

Believe me, you will know when you eat something you shouldn,t.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
