My weakness is Mexican food. I live in San Antonio so I'm surrounded by it. By the end of the weak I should be back to actual food and was looking for healthy suggestions.

I posted a quick little recipe that is similar enough for me. http://www.bariatricpal.com/topic/377324-layered-mexican-in-a-mason-jar-pur%C3%A9e/

Lately when I have it I also add a teaspoon of taco sauce in the layers.

I second the layering idea. I am still 9 days away from "real" food, but have already decided I am going to try this. Take the 4 oz container and layer with your taco favorites, minus the tortilla. I don't like Beans, so mine will be lean ground beef, cheese, tomatoes and salsa and taco seasoning, equaling about 4oz altogether.

I loved Mexican food, but after surgery just can't do the torts, rice, and Beans. Usually order fajita meat and salsa. I live in SATX, too! My surgery was 1/27/16. 75lbs so far!

I certainly wouldn't plan on tacos so soon after you're back on solids. If you remove the tortilla and replace it with some kind of green like a collard leaf, then maybe a small bite or two, but I would "ease back in" to solid foods and try them one at a time to see if anything irritates your new sleeve. For instance when I first went back on solid foods, shredded chicken and turkey were great, but for some reason ground meat of any kind upset my stomach. I can eat it now, but when I was just getting back on solids it hurt.

Refried Beans were a good started back into Mexican cuisine. Add a bit of low-fat cheddar on the top with some diced tomatoes and it's great. Just try everything individually first and give it a few minutes before trying more to see if you get any irritation. Hot sauce which I love was also a no-no for some time for me.

I actually find Mexican food to be an easy cuisine post-op. Skip all the tortillas and taco shells. When you're ready to try dense Proteins, Mexican grilled chicken, fish or carne asada are great flavorful choices. Sour cream, guacamole, Beans, salsas and pico are totally cool accompaniments and Condiments.

Ooh those are all really good ideas. Thank you! I wasn't gonna go straight for the taco, but maybe some taco meat or something. Refried Beans ain't cutting it.

While we're on the subject of foods, does cabbage upset anyone's stomach?

i make taco cups. you take a muffin tin and a wonton wrappers you fill it with whatever ground beef cheese then put it in the oven 10 mins or so take out add sour cream and tomatoes green onion. so soo good. also once i'm further out i'll probably make "taco salad" lettuce and all the taco toppings in a bowl with some fat free dressing mm!

sometimes it better to bake the cups for a couple mins before filling because the bottom is soggy

Amy's refried black Beans and canned chicken, cheese, salsa and sour cream. Yummy! I ate this in the soft food stage but it's good after too.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
