Did the office do the appeal for you or did you do your own. I was denied by insurance yesterday

@@ereese310 See if you can get a peer to peer first. I too was denied initially. I was all prepared for an appeal process, which I was going to use Lindstrom Obesity advocates for. When I called blue cross and spoke to someone in Medical Management, she told me to have my surgeon do a peer to peer prior to an appeal. He did and they approved it the same day.

I called the office yesterday and apparently they have already started the appeal process. I just don't understand what the first part of the denial even means.... to me it sounds like they aren't going to approve the sleeve because it's experimental. And I don't understand why they have something about a 6 month supervised diet in my denial when they already told me that it's not a requirement..... insurance is just super frustrating

I called my insurance & did it on my own...I basically told them my MAIN reason for RNY was because of my chronic pain.... that I'm an absolute bad pain daily & I can't exercise like normal people to get it off...that surgery was my only option...it only took 3 1/2weeks to get back to me with my approval!!! Best wishes I hope you get your appeal overturned too!!!

If they approved everyone who tried to get Surgery...that wld be A LOT of $$! Of course they have to TRY & deny it...don't get too discouraged...if you have more than co-morbidity (like sleep apnea) then most insurances will cover it... obviously you have to see what your insurance regulations are... The point is of course they're going to deny it but if you appeal it 50% of the cases get turned around...& if it still gets denied when they do a peer-to-peer that usually helps!! Again good luck... prayers for your approval!!

Hi! Well my surgery date is 11/11. I've been really positive and excited about it, but today I'm feeling really emotional and having a melt down. Family and friends are worried about me having complications and I keep hearing about and reading scary, negative things about VSG. I know everyone is going to have different experiences and there are people who get this done and don't take care of themselves as well. Just nervous.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
